TS picking up heavy Background sound
My teamates are complaining about hearing battlefield 1942 over my voice so loudly they cannot understand me. I'm using a Labtec headset w/ mic. they can hear me fine when we're not playing, even with the wav output turned waaay down I'm still not audible. Can someone tell me why TS is picking up the game over my voice. TIA

I just changed the recorder settings to where the only thing checked is microphone, and no I listen to the game in my headphones. I'll check and see if changing the recorder settings worked. Thanks for the reply!

make sure that "what you hear..." is NOT selected. This would loop back the sound you hear to your friends.
By the way, just got BF1942 (installed 1.3) and this ***** prog crashs at least every 5 min. to the desktop grml !!!!!!!!

I have the same problem but with a different game(s). It definitely happens in Grand Prix Legends, and I suspect it happens in America's Army too (but I'm not certain). The bigger problem is GPL, since the wail of the engine is everpresent. In AA, it's not such a big deal, since loud noise is intermittent.
Yes, I use headphones and a mic, so the mic is not picking up the sound from the desktop speakers.
I checked under recorder settings, and the only thing selected is Microphone.
What do you mean by this? Where is this setting?make sure that "what you hear..." is NOT selected

I'm having the same probolem with BF1942 and for GhostRecon. Anytime there is a load background noise like wind, water or vehicles no one can understand me because they are picking up on the noise as well. I use headphones so it's not the mic picking up any external noise. My teamates are complaining about hearing battlefield 1942 over my voice so loudly they cannot understand me.

I can't find this either?? Wish I did, sounds like it would have been the solution. What do you mean by this? Where is this setting?

open your sound settings in Windows (little loudspeaker in the lower corner of your desktop) - Option- Properties - select record
make sure, only micro is selected
in play back, the micro should NOT be selected !

Yes, I've done that. It still captures the game sounds.

Do you happen to have a TurtleBeach SantaCruz soundcard?
If so, then you have to be aware that this soundcard has a hardware fault which causes any sound played to "leak" into your recording stream.
This can be reduces to a minimum though by activating the mic-boost option and reducing the record level.
If you dont have a TurtleBeach you might habe a Soundblaster to which this "record what you hear" option is related. Check your SoundBlaster sound controll panel and locate that Option. Make sure that it is really switched off.
If neither of the above helps. Try playing an MP3 while recording your voice with the Windows recorder. If you hear the music on the recorded wave you definitely have a problems with your soundsettings. Try limiting the possible sources and go through all your soundsettings again. Eventually you should be able to find the faulty setting. (a good way is to switch everything off and to lowest lvl possible. Then play a wave/mp3 and change settings till you can hear the sound. Stop playing the mp3 and fetch your mic. go to windows soundrecorder, start recording and play around with soundsettings till your voice gets recorded. Now doublecheck by recording your voice again while playing an mp3/wave). After your recording works for Windows, go back to Teamspeak and try it again. It should work now.

I assume it's a hardware driver problem, and not really a "hardware" hardware problem, correct? So there's hope that a new driver will fix it?
I've done the MP3-soundrecorder bit. It still picks up both the music and my voice.

I am sorry to say but it is a real hardware problem. From what i gather from other boards they have messed with some components on the TurtleBeach SantaCruz and this cant be fixed with drivers.
What solved the problem for me was to activate the microphone boost and set the record level to low as it seems to pick up more as higher the record level. Hence boosting the mic and lowering the recordlevel reduced the problem for me significantly.
Ohh and about GPL... i dont think that its the game he is refering to
