Teamspeak Under Windows Vista 32/64bit
Hello everyone,
I have noted there are no particular threads in this forum relating to Teamspeak and Windows Vista 32/64bit. So the issues that are apparent and how we can help by improving the amount of feedback the creators of TS 3 receive. Let's complicate their lives

The first thing I noticed when Vista retail was first released to the public (I was not surprised either - Microsoft lol), was to see a Vista warning screen informing me upon installation, that the TS 2 client had known issues, unless I'm just an audio noob
...
That warning was correct. I had added the TS client patch and ensured my audio drivers were all up-to-date and configured properly. Since then I noticed there was no directsound available and could not hear client audio notifications. I noticed also that all attempts to configure and run 5.1 channel games caused inability to use TS with surround sound, as Teamspeak has a seemingly singular or monural audio output that can not be mixed with 5.1 surround. Most audio chips these days are capable of processing mulitple voices and it would appear that my friends voices are not included while listening to directional in-game audio lol. I have a Logitech Z-5500 audio system with the ability to toggle between digital and analogue inputs.
Teamspeak 2 prevents me from changing these settings and therefore audio must be received through the center and front speakers only. Changing the audio outputs in TS itself don't change this behaviour. In modern games where it is increasingly important to hear your enemy from where ever they may be. It is important to be able to co-ordinate your team/clan and hear directional audio. I'm sure that the awesome people behind TeamSpeak 3 creation will take all the issues into account and have a huge task at hand. Three cheers to them, thank-you and good luck
Feedback on Vista/Teamspeak topics are appreciated...

People have TS running of vista computers, there are topics showing this. You have to make some changes with the OS settings but they work.
Secondly TS only will send out mono channel(meaning direction of sound). If you want TS to be fast and good quality without taking up a lot of bandwidth then, they will not be able to send it to automatically come from all speakers, each speaker being a channel, it is logical that they only come from the front speakers in a 5.1 surround sound system as it is supposed to simulate someone taking to you. That person being in front of you. There is no point in making TS surround sound as there is no way that ts would be able to tell if the sound should come from the left or right.
It is just a waste to make them add that so that if can come from every speaker but not have it do what 5.1 surround sound does in the game.
I use cmss 3d headphone and have surround sound and the ability to use voice activation on TS, not having to worry about the volume of the playback and pressing a button to talk.
Plus I do not think a lot of people want it to take longer to complete

Thanks for your feedback, but you miss the point I think? I was reffering to inability to use suround IE: Doom 3, or any sound directional game and TS2 together. Game surround audio must be turned off to use TS2? Surround headphones are not what the majority of gamers use and is only simulated surround sound. True surround comes from around the room. For advaned gamers, including the ones that don't use headphones at all, this is a huge issue and was the reason I signed up to this forum in the first place. I don't want to see TS3 behave the same way as it currently does and because TS2 works fine on Vista At the moment and those companies that past pay for multipul servers, it would be a shame to see the same issues in such an important area come around again. TS surround is not the point, nor matters, but rather loss of TS whilst listening to surround in-game.

Tell it to use the wave driver, not the directx driver, in your TS client options.

Thanks Darrell. that makes sense, as wave sound can be mixed into the other channels. I can now play surround games and listen to TS2 :-)
Is it a bug with TS2 on Vista 32bit where sound notifications are lost? Can someone pin this one down for me please? At the moment, I'm not too bothered while I can see TS2 on the other monitor, but if I can't, I need those sound notifications to work...

Ok, maybe mine is weird...I had teamspeak coming through the center speaker, until I switched over to direct sound...the center speaker thing made headphones not work....just figured i would post that, now I am happy I dont have to go back and forth
