Help Wanted (New to TS2 and Linux)

Ok well im not totaly new to linux, but its the first time configuring a linux system of my own.

I actualy work with unix daily, but its a bit different on the supercomputer-user level, than it is with my little box i want to host TS2 on.

So basicaly im a noob at getting something like this to work. Don't worry i am a programer so im not afraid to edit files.

I installed the newest distrobution of the server on my system (and after playing with my router for about an hour) finaly figured out how to open a port for the linux box 8747 (problems due to the linix box not being recognized as an attached device).

So i started and stopped the server like the readme said. but i dont understand what exactly im supposed to do now?

How do i change the settings (like password etc.) Just trying to setup a pretty simple server for BF1942 clan members.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The default port is 8767! Either you change the router, or TS.

Open the server.log, search for the admin password, start it again and login through the webinterface (<server-IP>:14534) using name="admin" pass="pass from the log". Or you can just start it with the -adminpw=CHOOSEPASSWORD parameter. With the webinterface you can configure the server.
BUT: There will be a new version released the next day. Maybe you wanna wait?

hmm
so RC2 is a new server version for TS2? And that is the new release you speak of?

Also, I did forward the port 8767, Im jsut not at home to look at what it was, but i did forward the right one, although the router does not recognize it as an attached device through the web interface (only windows i guess) but I did take care of that.

Also do i need to forward port 14534?

You mean i type that into mozilla, netscape or any web browser? Sorry for the stupid questions, and thanks for your help.

Yep!

Yes! The ts server has a build-in http-server and comes along with some http files. So you can connect to the ts server through a web browser by typing "http://<IP>:14534". Then you configure your ts server and make user accounts! Therefor you shouldn't forward the port, unless you want to configure it out of the internet!

whyis it called RC2? anyways? whats RC2 stand for? Will it be for linux? and ca i set it up the same way?

RC = Release Candidate! Which means, we're getting closer to the "Final Version" TS2 is still beta.
It will be for Windows and Linux, either. I don't know if the configuration will be the same, but I think so.

Delete the server.* files and start the server again. Or use the -adminpw parameter.

well i can log into the server at 192.168.0.4 but not by my WAN ip address how can other people online that are not on my network join? they tell me the server does not work.

Im gettting this error when i shut it down the first time, or from when i changed the settings. is possible something in Linux is not configured correctly any adeas?

im logged into my server by 192.168.0.4, but i dont think thats the IP i should give out to others right?

Nope! Of cause not! As I mentioned in the other thread, you need DNS resolving of you WAN-IP. www.dyndns.org is you friend!

so then how come i can host FTP's and other servers using my wan ip? TS seems to be the only program that cannot be used with a router. ?

what the hell is the point in setting up a server if no1 can connect?

Sorry, just a little ticked, IMO this site whould have a sticky that says TS2 servers will not function with Internet connection sharing, since there is nothing on the homepage about it. I spent a good 8 hours trying to figure out what i was doing wrong, and acording to other posts i read "i connect through my routers assigned IP, and everyone else should be able to connect through the WAN IP. At least other people said it worked without any issues for them. After all that i find out there is ABSOLUTLY no point in hosting a TS server.

I jsut feel the issue should be explained, since probably 90% of people with more than one computer use internet connection sharing.

Very dissapointed...

i tried reading that link, but i have absolutly No clue how that link helps me or even what it is talking about....

Sounds like i would have to pay money...

Why not jsut buy an extra Ip form my cable company, and split it with a switch before the router?

instead of paying $15 a month for a domain name?

Why not just make the program work with a router? like FTP programs etc...

right now the server is up and running but i can only connect to it from my LAN, since im the only one using my LAN, i can only talk to myself..

This does nto help my bf1492 clan at all...
