[root@ihatetheworld.com ventrilo]#
These are the codecs and quality from ventrilo. I personally use the last one and would really like to see if you guys can get better quality. The user functions and some of the things on TS are great, but I just cant get over the quality. (its hard to sell TS to my friends after using vent for 3-4 years (ish)
You use a 26.9 bit Speex and it is no where near the quality as the 16bit one I use. I am willing to use more bandwidth for better quality(dedicated server). Please please please!

It makes almost no difference between the highest ventrilo codec and the highest teamspeak codec. so the only thing that increases is the traffic.
of course will ts3 have much better codecs. but for all people who say that ventrilo is better than teamspeak:
download the TeamSpeak1 Client and join on a teamspeak1 server. You will see an amazing similiarity
Edit: i meant the programm structure, not the codec this time

okay you go download vent and join my server and then we will join ANY TS server and you can tell me what the difference is. IF I can get equal quality in what I HEAR and others hear, ill quit vent this second. I am using TS2.

I have both running side by side and I can hear the quality difference. Same Host, same comp, same everything, me and friend testing it and we can not get Ts2 anywhere CLOSE to crystal clear quality of vent on half the bit rate. So tell me what im doing wrong on my TS server. I have set the CHANNEL to the highest quality. So please dont think I havent. I will try anything you suggest.
But seriously, go download the client from vent and then ts2 and join both servers and you will be able to hear the difference instantly. I assure you, I want to use TS if I can match the sound quality.

TS2 will most likely not get an update with new codecs. So wait for TS3. You are not the first to post a topic like this.

Speex codec fine tuning seems not to be that easy
Both systems use the same Speex codec.
Itīs also not a question of choosing the high bandwith settings as neither in Ventrilo, nor in TS there is a huge difference between the best or the second or third best setting.
It seems that Flagshipīs sound engineers have fine tuned the Speex codec for Ventrilo in a way that makes voices sound very true.
But you have to pay a lot of money for that as more than 8 people online may have been rare in 2005 but that is just normal today!
So the option for online communities is to find someone willing to finance that better sound quality alone or try to get in place some money raising (certainly not funny) or use TS which is in the handling and a couple of other things more comfortable and has just this slight sound quality downside.
If you want to hear somebodys real voice you can always call him on Skype
