prepare header invalid handle

I get the above error when starting or changing settings in TS2.
I can not switch to directsound, I select it then click okay but when i return to the option screen wave is selected.
My mircophone functions outside of TS but will not work inside it.
I also get no sound output at all from TS.

I am using the onboard sound on my Asus PK5C mobo. I have the latest versions of my audio drivers and the lastest directx.

Any ideas?

If you are using Windows Vista, start the client with administrator rights (rightclick on the app or link).
