    Connection Problems

I am having connection problems with a specific server. I have been accessing this server for months and the settings are saved into TS. For the past 3-4 days I haven't been able to access the server and I am just greeted with the lovely "No reply from server" message.

I can access other TS servers and I can't access the server from other computers in my house. I have tried a direct connection, bypassing the router. I have tried using a guest account with just the password and still the same thing. Settings on the sever apparently haven't been changed and nothing on my computer has been changed. Everyone else can still access the server, so the server is running.

    Any suggestions?

Well make sure you verify the settings that are needed in order to connect to that server, IP, Username/PW, etc... If verify the settings with the server admin then you can both try to figure out what happened. Also make sure you didn't accidently get banned or anything.

    Hope these suggestions help.

I have the "Wrong Answer" Pfff.... it can't be the OS or that one PC because as stated NONE of the PCs can connect, and it can't be the Router as far as I know because if that was the case he wouldn't be able to connect to any TS Servers, it's got to be something with that connection, or his ISP is blocking the IP for some reason.

    Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit.

Yeah I have verified everything over and over, but still no success. I have tried bypassing the router and using a direct connection, whilst having no security programs running and still no success.

Could it be something with the port numbers that the server is using? the other servers I can use have port numbers of 8676, 8770 and the one I cant is 9067. Would it make a difference?

I just have no idea seriously. I was accessing this TS server for months and then all of a sudden I can't. I have verified with the server admin that nothing has changed and my settings in TS haven't changed.

Well if you bypass the Router and still can't connect then call your ISP to see if they know about any ports that might have been blocked from your connection. Worth a shot since it's not the router evidently.

Or somehow the host of that server has your IP Blocked somewhere.

i wish i had vista..... there's a command prompt somewhere in vista right? i forgot how to 'run' in vista.

    1. I think you alt + cntrl+del and bring up task manager.
    2. Make sure your applications tab is highlighted and go up to the top to File > New task (run..).
    3. A window should pop up and type in cmd and hit enter.
    4. With that window type tracert ***.***.***.*** where *** is the ip. Don't worry about the port.
    5. After the trace is finish type in test.txt and hit enter
    6. copy and paste the info for me please. Here's an example

      Tracing route to www.l.google.com [74.125.95.104]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1 8 ms 9 ms 12 ms 76.42.112.1
      2 8 ms 11 ms 13 ms gig2-2.kscymogran-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.174]
      3 * * 29 ms RDC-24-94-161-34.kc.rr.com [24.94.161.34]
      4 27 ms 29 ms 30 ms ae-5-0.cr0.chi30.tbone.rr.com [66.109.6.112]
      5 29 ms 31 ms 28 ms ae-1-0.pr0.chi10.tbone.rr.com [66.109.6.155]
      6 32 ms 30 ms 32 ms 74.125.48.109
      7 31 ms 34 ms 30 ms 209.85.251.38
      8 39 ms 40 ms 39 ms 72.14.232.141
    7. Then. Ping the server. Just type ping ***.***.***.*** and let me know the results as well

    whew..that's a lot of work.

    RECAP

Trace route to server, Paste results.
    Ping server, give results.

Tracing route to 209.104.4.227 over maximum of 30 hops

    1 General failure.

    Trace complete.

Pinging 204.104.4.227 with 32 bytes of data:
    General failure.
    General failure.
    General failure.
    General failure.

    Ping statistics for 204.104.4.227:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 <100% loss>,

I also run a direct connection through the modem, with no security software running and the 9067 specific port was giving a response to a server, so that would lead me to the conclusion that my ISP isn't blocking the port. But I'm stumped on this one =[

You got the general failure so now we'll work on that part so we can take the test again. Sometimes this can be caused by anti virus softwares and other times could be with a vista setting. Try the following:

Verify that in the Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center that "Network Discovery" is ON

Also, If you are connected through a router -- try connecting directly to the modem.

Had a similar issue with a Linksys router that needed a firmware update.

And try testing the issue in Safe Mode with networking support to rule out conflicts.
You also may want to try and boot into safe mode and try it there to rule out conflicts of software.

I'm trying to see if you may just have a bad hop to the server. Your path to a certain place changes and you may be just hitting a bad hop on the way to the server. So for months it could be working great and then your path to the TS server may change one day and just time out (thus, you never being able to connect). There is nothing you can really do about that.

Tried all those different methods, but still it doesn't make a difference.

I thank everyone for there advice and efforts, but I think I am going to concede defeat on this one. This is my most used server, but it seems for whatever reason, I can't access it. So, I will just have to quit my gaming until I can get back on it I suppose =[

    Thanks again guys, really appreciated.

In Vista some commands require you to run it as an admin even if you are logged on to the admin account in vista.

You can go to "Start->Programs->Accesories->Right Click on Command Prompt->Click Run as Administrator" then try those test again to see what happens.

If you are giving up that's sad to learn, but if you need a free server look around I'm sure you'll find one *cough* *Looks at his profile page...*

i KNEW someone knew where it was without running a task. I should have known that. That's way easier then what i said lol. Curse me for being lazy!
