Best Codec To Use
Hi guys
We mainly use TS for matches and I've had numerous discussions about other solutions as people maon about LAG with TS....so.........
What is the best Codec to use for voice data transfer?
I was using Speex 25.9 Kbit but I now use GSM 16.4 Kbit
Can you advise please?
Thanks

imho
I use GSM 16.4 Kbit
and as for speex I would use from speed of mentioned GSM to the max of speex speed(16-25) .
it depends on distance packetloss and stability. (epxerience before I switched from 5kBit)
another thing could be that traffic going on TeamSpeak server internet connection cant handle it.
another thing could be users problems with sound or VoiceActivationLevel.
lol you can ask that question again when TS3 come in play

Also, some of the lag problems you may experiencing is part of the nature of VoIP. As far as i know, changing the codec to a lower 'grade' only lightens the load on the server and client (and quality changes). It doesn't really arrive from A to B any faster. Granted if the server can't handle it you can run into some problems. But if the server has a good connection and the clients aren't on a tin can and a string, then changing the codec won't have any noticeable changes except quality of voice. However, with all that said, having been in matches, those milliseconds can mean the world. You get shot in the back as you hear your teammate say "Behind you!"....it is frustrating but TS3 will reduce this kind of lag or delay. Here's a quote from the dev blog
Full article : http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthread.php?t=44373Ok, let's talk about some cool new features in TeamSpeak 3. There are plenty to choose from but I think the immediate, and most noticeable one for me is the reduced latency. Another Alpha tester and I did some latency testing, and we both agreed that there is little to no noticeable latency -- and we both have only average DSL connections. Woohooo!
And, in my opinion, when TS4 comes out, they will (or rather should) implement a concept so awesome ( maggies concept of time travel, so) that there will be no time delay.Last edited by ZeroTKA; 05-03-2009 at 06:17.

Speex 16 works really well. You do not have to worry about codec compatibly also.
