7 x64 admin warning crashes TS
Hi.
I'm running Seven x64 RC. Every time the UAC pops up the dialog that "an app is trying to make changes to my computer" (greys the screen, little shield icon in the task bar, happens with many oldish apps: they probably write in a UAC-protected place on the disk at every launch), teamspeak crashes.
I know that warning does not play nice with the sound drivers, it messes up the sound in Civ4 and other games, too, without crashing them though.I'm not willing to disable the UAC.

Which app is requesting the permissions and what do you select?

various apps. Civilization 4 for example. I select 'yes' (grant admin privileges to that app)
I think the problem comes not from the others apps, but from the fact that the UAC does something weird with the sound driver when it pops up.

Are you willing you disable UAC for a short period of time to see if it still causes the problem?

I tried already, and the problem indeed goes away. It's permanently disabling the UAC that gives me pause.

several:
Speakers (6-generic usb audio device): (ready) my usb headset, which I use mainly for TS and Skype
ATI HDMI output: (default) sound on my HDMI monitor, which I use for most PC things: system sound, games, most videos...
Speakers: (default communications device) analog output, connected to my stereo, which I use when I listen to good music or movies.
Headphones: (not plugged in) regular headphones, I don't have any
Digital Audio (S/PDIF): (ready) my -old- stereo does not have spdif so this is not connected.

If you go to device manager and click on sound, video, game controllers what do you have there?
It seems like you have a name brand sound controller that might need updated drivers. It may be integrated but it can still a chip from realtek that needs this drivers to operate correctly. MS does not always keep up with all of the lastest drivers. Other forums most of the solution has been updated drivers. So if you do know the exact name of your sound card then check to see if their website has newer drivers.

Thanks a lot for your help.
- ATI high definition audio device, that's the sound via ATI's 4850 HDMI link -or is it DVI ?-. TS usually outputs to that, and I always use the latest drivers.
- Generic USB Audio device, that's my Plantronics 955 USB gaming headset, I typically only use its mike, unless there are people around. Plantronics are adamant that these "don't require drivers" (sic), and don't offer any.
- High Definition Audio Device, that's my DFI M3H5's integrated sound, which is a Realtek ALC885. I'll look into updating these.
Again, thanks for your help.Last edited by obarthelemy; 17-09-2009 at 21:17.

Installed that one, no luck, TS still crashes anytime the UAC pops up.
