Mic working...sound is not...Vista 32...SP2...Sound in windows and games is fine

    Hello Everyone,

I just updated to Vista 32 bit SP2 and now I cannot hear anyone in TS but they can hear me. When I login, I do not hear "connected" or when someone logs out, "Disconnected". Yesterday with Vista SP1, everything worked fine and has been for over a year. I read another post with the same problem that if they unistall Vista SP2...sound is fine....reinstall SP2...no sound in TS. Unfortunately I did not see any resolution to that post. I have onboard SigmaTel High Definition Audio.

I am 99.9999999999999% sure it has nothing to do with updating sound drivers. All other Windows sounds and sound in games is fine. This seems to be a TS2/Vista SP2 issue. Might be a Windows/TS setting somewhere that I am missing but nothing is muted and like I said, all other sounds in other apps are fine which leads me to believe it is totally TS related with Vista SP2 and the Sigmatel onboard audio. I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling TS to no effect although when I reinstalled, all of my TS settings were already there so I wonder how effective the uninstall really was.

Any ideas other than updating audio drivers and uninstalling SP2 which I do not plan on doing? I am hoping I am missing a stupid setting somewhere or there is an updated TS executable that fixes this issue.

    Thanks in advance.

What do you have for TS>settings>options>input and output devices?

    Direct or Wave?

    Unhappy

I have it set to Direct Sound. The Input Device is Mic (Sigma Tel High Definition) and the output Device is speaker/Headphones. That being said, I have tested all of the combinations in Settings and all of the available codecs without success. I also changed the TS shortcut to run in XP compatibility mode with Admin Privs but that did not work either.

    Any ideas?

that would be uninstalling SP2. System Restore in most cases is a stupid way of solving a problem as all it does it change setting back to what they were. It changes reg settings, reverts drivers, etc. Does not help find out what the issue was, what the actual solution is, nor allow anyone to be able to fix their issue if they want to have an updated pc. I put it just under Stupidity with people that just totally re-install windows to try to fix a problem.

    TO OP:
Try right clicking on the sound icon(by the clock lower right) >playback devices> right click on and set as default - The device that audio plays from ( You can make sure if you play some music you can see the green bar go up and down.)

Then open TS and click on the sound icon> click on mixer and make sure that TS is not mute and the sound level is on par with others.

Did you try any of the previous suggestions?
    What were your results?

Thank you for not starting a new thread with the exact same problem.

Hi there, I am having the same problem as the OP, my sound works fine and I can see people lighting up on TS but cannot hear anything, I tried the suggestions labeled above but with no success.

If I right click on the volume control symbol beside the clock and bring up the list of playback devices whenever somebody talks on TS I can see the green bar bounce up and down indicating there is sound but I cannot hear anything. When I open the volume mixer I can see the bar underneath the device bounce up and down but the one under TS always remains empty. I cannot hear anything whether I use my speakers or if I plug in my headset (3.5mm jack not USB)

I am using Vista 32 bit SP1 and the Sigmatel high definition Audio Codec

EDIT: Should probably add that I am unable to hear the player joined/left etc notifications either.

Wave + speakers as output = nothing
Direct sound + speakers as output = nothing
Direct sound + Primary sound driver = nothing

got people on TS to confirm a few things, mic still works but no sound coming back and like I said volume mixer under playback devices still bounces up and down.

It bounces up and down from what should only be ts yet you do not hear anything. Correct? If you mute your headphones from ts does it stop?
