    Exclamation Data Privacy during registration for 512 slot licesense

    Hello,
    when I try to register to obtain the 512 slot license, you ask lots of private data from me, including name, email, telephone, postal address, etc.

    * What do you need this information for?
    * How will you use this data?
    * Will you transmit it to third parties?
    etc.

    I can't find anything about this in the license agreement or anywhere else.
    Please fix this!

    @Wulf_,

    They don't "need" it for anything. They "want" to have it so they can more easily sue you should you not abide by the licensing agreement.

    I think it's kind of silly, since anyone who wanted to break the license agreement would supply fake information (which given the shear number of TS3 NPLs would most likely not be detected).

    I'm guessing the major reason the new licensing system came around was because people were selling servers without an ATHP license.

    Perhaps the Teamspeak team could answer these:

    1. Apparently, this information is included in the license file. How many other places is it exposed? Can clients see this information?

    2. If a server is always phoning home to Teamspeak, what is it sending? What guarantee do we have as to the security of our data on your servers?

    3. How can we depend on a software product that could decide to stop working at any time due to failure to contact the licensing server?

    4. I'm guessing your new system lets you disable any server (commercial or not) whenever you wish to. Is that correct?

    * To find your information if we need to know who you are.
    * Yes! Triton is going to sell your private date to all advertising companies around the world and your email server will break down because you'll get tons of spam.

    |1.
    the connected client dont gets anything from this file

    |2. If a server is always phoning home to Teamspeak, what is it sending?
    ReportItem(VirtualServerId _id, int _slots, std::vector<char> _ip, unsigned short _port);

    |4. I'm guessing your new system lets you disable any server (commercial or |not) whenever you wish to. Is that correct?

    I'm not from sales, but I'll try...

    1. The licensing information including private data, max virtual servers and max slot cannot be seen by the client. The reason why your contact information is contained in the licensekey.dat file is that you can use it to identify the license key (and maybe make the file look nicer). That's nothing special for license files. You could also remove the date from the file if you don't need it since the server only requires the license key string itself (the thing under ==key==).

    2. All communication between the server instance and our accounting servers is fully encrypted. Your server will send your licensing information to query the max virtual servers and slots he's allowed to host.

    3. The server will not stop working when the accounting server breaks down. The only thing that would happen in this case is that you're unable to start a new server process.

    4. We do have the ability to add your server to a blacklist in case the license agreement is violated (just like in TS2).

    I'm serious about this issue.

    Please tell your sales or lawyers to include appropiate information in the license agreement or other places. So I can sue YOU if you misuse my data :-)

    Thanks for clearing up those questions

    Perhaps a licensing FAQ could be compiled for other users?

    It seems like the licensee's name pops up in the server logs under licensed to.

    I removed some of the information from the license file, but it still seems to be pulling the licensee's name from somewhere. Perhaps the TS3 licensing server? If that's the case, is it possible to get the "licensed to" field changed to a domain or org name?

    I contacted support for a full legal copy, but what I underlined is extremely unprofessional even in a joking matter.
