Totally lost...
Okay so, I'm loving TS3, looks awesome. But this new permissions system has me totally destroyed (which seems to be a recurring motif around here). First off, I would like to explain the 5 tiers of permissions as I understand them, and have you guys correct my mistakes and explain the grey areas for me:
-Server Groups: Server-wide permissions, like the ability to kick users and edit channels.
-Client Permissions: Give a specific client a new permission (or reduce their permissions) without moving them to a new group. (Overwrites Server Groups.)
-Channel Permissions: This, unfortunately, makes no sense to me? Does it give permissions to all the clients in that channel? Or... ?
-Channel Groups: Channel specific permissions, like kicking users from that channel and editing said channel. Good for giving clients a personal channel to setup and do with as they please. (Overwrites Server Groups and Client Permissions.)
-Channel Client Permissions: Exactly like Client Permissions except only applies in specific channels. (Overwrites everything.)
So did I make any mistakes there?
Next, I want to set up a couple more groups and such, I haven't decided exactly how I want to do this but I've hit a snag before I even start. I can't give a group new permissions from the TS3 permissions dialog, there is an error message saying I have insufficient permissions. So, since I am the owner of the server, how can I give myself total control and 100% permissions so there is nothing I can't do? I tried looking at ServerQuery but that just boggles my mind even more.
Lastly, why is there no official help file on this? I know it's just a beta, but with no help file and no versions of TS2 available for download, help files and startup guides are a must...
EDIT: Oh, and one last question. How does the new Permanent/Semi-Permanent/Temporary Channels system work? Are Permanent and Temporary the same as TS2 Registered and Unregistered channels respectively? Or something completely different?

Yes, it gives these permissions to all clients in this channel. As of now, these permissions can be used server-wide and are not limited to the channel that the client is in. If you set i_client_ban_power 100 in a channel, then everyone who is in this channel can ban everyone who is on the server (at least if there were not other precautions taken).
You can prevent server group permissions from being overwritten by channel group permissions by checking the "Skip" check-box for a parameter in the server group.
Take a look at this post:So, since I am the owner of the server, how can I give myself total control and 100% permissions so there is nothing I can't do? I tried looking at ServerQuery but that just boggles my mind even more.

Those are included with the server binaries. Take a look in the doc folder.Lastly, why is there no official help file on this? I know it's just a beta, but with no help file and no versions of TS2 available for download, help files and startup guides are a must...
Temporary channels will vanish as soon as there is no longer any user is in them. Permanent channels will always be available. I could not find out how semi-permanent channels would work.EDIT: Oh, and one last question. How does the new Permanent/Semi-Permanent/Temporary Channels system work? *EDIT* found this post regarding semi-permanent channels. They will be removed when the server is restarted.Last edited by Birdie; 28-12-2009 at 07:37.

So why would anyone ever do this? It seems infinitely not useful to grant permissions to users in a channel...
I've seen them, they're really not that helpful... It would be nice if the server query one actually explained how to accomplish certain tasks rather than just listing commands. It doesn't even really explain how to use them very well...

Yes, it seems to me to be the severest drawback of the new permission system. On the other hand, you might want to generate a "don't bug me" channel that strips users of all the permissions that they otherwise might have got. In that case it may be intentional that the users in that channel cannot send messages, poke, chat, join other channels on a server-wide basis.
