    "Userfile-creation-tool" required

    Hey!

    Would it be possible to the TS-Team to release a stand-alone binary (win/linux) to create identity-files (like the ones which can be exported at the identity-menu) and output the ensuing unique id only by one given command line paramter (nickname)?

    E.g.:
    $ ./create-ts3-id -nick="TestUser"
    output:
    Unique-ID: MZJV/zTzBXa9fy1gw6vqDW2Mnzo=
    Created file: TestUser.ini

    TestUser.ini contains:
    [Identity]
    id=Standard
    identity="fglkjdgljdfgljgldgjglgkjdlgjkglkjfgANDso ON="
    nickname=TestUser

    Why do you want to create identities with a command line tool?

    Hey Peter.

    I am planing to code a TS2->TS3 migration tool. At the moment the biggest problem is the missing user/pass-auth-system at TS3. Of course, I prefer the new permission system, but at the moment there is *no* possibility to create a complete user account (account, correct permissions, etc.) on server side without waiting that user is acting (e.g. answering back users unique id) - therefor it is not possible to create a fully automated TS3 registration system.

    By creating userfiles via command line, it would be possible to create a tool to migrate from TS2 to TS3 and it would also be possible to integrate such a command line tool in existing environments e.g. to create a new TS3 user if a user register at a clan forum.

    I would not use a TS3 server that dictates me what identity to use.

    And even if you send out identities, that is much more work for the user

    Have a look at the following discussion: http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthread.php?t=49091

    You don't have to But I think that possibility of using different identities on different (or even the same) TS3 server is one of many advantages of the new permission + identity system.
    For TS2/3 environments with a huge amount of users or communities with very automated systems it would be great to implement such a automatic TS3-user-creation in their systems; especially because missing such an implementation in existing systems is - compared to TS2 - a big step back.

    No, it would require only on action on user side: to import the genereated userfile at TS3. At the moment the situation is much more complex:
    - user have to register at our site
    - user have to get the server password
    - user have to join the ts3 server (to register him at the database)
    - user have to feed back his unique id
    - admin have to grant the intended rights.

    Following my suggestion will reduce that all to two steps:
    - user has to register at our side
    - user has to import the additional ID at TS3.
    - all rights granting mechanismens will be automated.

    At that is just covering the "standard situation" with new users. My suggestion would it also make possible to migrate existing TS2-communities to TS3.

    Small addendum:

    I forgot an other huge advantage:
    We can keep a backup of the userfile on our server. At the moment the users have to backup their ID which is used on our server on their own - if they loose the file, e.g. by reinstalling their OS without doing a backup or by a hdd crash, we have to set all the rights for that user from the scratch.

    If we keep a copy of "our" ID file, the user is able to download "his" ID file after a new installation which is much easier than the other way.

    Add2:

    It would be also ok, if the requested function will be included in the TS3-client/server (just create the file(s), no GUI startup, start via command line paramter) without releasing an extra executable.
