TS2 RC2 using CPU resources when inactive.....
Ok, here I go

While playing BF1942 I notice quite a bit "game lag" when team speak is running. My pings are fine, it is my FPS that are being hit. At first I thought it may have been a bandwidth issue, so I turned it all the way down to 17Kb(2.13KB) for both up and down.....this did not seem to work. So a friend thought it may have been compressing it too hard, so I set it back to unlimited...but then I turned down the 3step qualtiy meter to its lowest - this still didnt help. When closing out of TS2 when playing BF1942, everything is fine.
So, I decided to exit out of my game and close every program. I watched my CPU usage via coolmon for the next min....it consistantly jumped from 0-1%...the norm. Then I opened TS2 RC2...it now jumped the CPU from 6-19% the entire time....and this is not when in a server. I joined my friends server(1 other person logged into it) and I still was jumping the CPU from 6-19%.
I called up a buddy of mine that I play BF1942 with, had him try out his TS2 RC2 with coolmon....his CPU idled at 0-1%.....but he does have a 2.4Ghz compared to my 900mhz. I was going to reinstall last night, but the download section was down....so I'm posting here for now till I get home today.
My system specs:
Windows XP SP1 w/current hot fixes
AMD T-Bird 900
512MB PC133
Abit KT7-RAID mobo
Creative Live Drive w/Live 5.1 sound card w/latest Creative drivers
Visiontek GF4 Ti4600 128MB
DirextX 9.0
Cable 1.5/256
---------------------------------------------------------
Friends System specs:
Windows XP SP1 (no hot fixes since SP1)
Intel P4 2.4 Northwood
512 DDR 2700
MSI 845PE
Creative LIve Drive w/Live 5.1 sound card w/latest Creative drivers
ATI 8500DV
DirectX 9.0a
DSl 1.5/256
We both downloaded TS2 RC2 the same day. I know his PC may be running it better since he is twice as fast, but he is the only person I can really compare too right now.
Any ideas?
FYI - I did see the codec thread in the FAQ forum and may try that if no one else has any ideas.Last edited by mtmra70; 22-04-2003 at 15:55.

mabye as a 'half-ass' solution, could I run TS1 or a "lite" version of TS? All I need it to do is transmit my voice and receive my voice....I do not need all the features of TS2.

I am but I found that BF1942 plays better with it on.
This would not resolve the CPU spikes when the only program open is TS2.

Update:
reinstalled fresh TS2 RC2 download, still getting 6-19% CPU usage when sitting idle.

Your issue is your 900 mhz cpu..need something faster if you want to reduce your cpu usage under ts2...

AMD 1900XP, SB Audigy, 768 DDR2700, DirectX 9.0b, win2k:
TS client (32.60) using from 0 - 2 % CPU time when not talking and a max of about 8 - 9 % when talking (usually 4 - 5 % when talking). Indenpendant of selected Codec and WAVE / Direct Sound in TS.
- I suspect your onboard soundchip (driver update, test a seperate SoundCard,...)
@mtmra70
A 900 MHz CPU for BF1942 ? That must be a joke ? Can't really imagine this
