is there no client list?
Hi there,
i use TS3 for a MMORPG guild.
Now there are changing members in a guild all the time and many guests on a TS server.
Now the question is...
when i want to add new users in groups (and i dont know with what nickname they exactly were online) do i really have to go from 1 to 876234 to search the database ID?
Wouldnt it be much easier when you had a function to show the user-DB, just with nicknames, db-id, last login for example?
Canīt believe iīm the only one who wishes such a function
cheers

well...i think you still dont got me right
i was talking about a function IN the client, without any other tools, php kits ...
because IN the client, you can easily add users into group with the DB-id
and there should just be a button, to show the list of the users;
even if its only last 24 hours or smthn
or see them in the standard grp for example; and copy/paste them into other grps
not everyone was a fan of these ts2 homepage-setup-thing
so i donīt really need a webpanel when i can do everything with the client
and the most things are done, so you almost dont need the serverquery anymore; so why no easy overview of the connections
cheers

I, personally, think that default client functionality is just WAY OVER what is need for everyday/casual use.
I can imagine it split into "just client" and "administration addon kit". (Also, the current user rights system just ridiculously complicated).

Hi,
there will be a "Client List" functionality within the client, but it just currently isn't there yet. Your Problem doesn't sound like anything that you would use a "Client List" to solve though, to grant your members access you have two basic routes:
(a) You are online when they are online: Open the "Server Groups" dialog, and use drag&drop to drag the client form the tree-view into the "Clients" list.
(b) You are not online when they are online: This is what tokens are made for! Go to the token manager dialog, hit "Add Token" and select which group the member you are making this token for should receive. Once you have that filled out hit "Create", and copy&paste the generated token string and send it to your member in any way you communicate with your members (e.g. email). On the members side he just connects to the server and then clicks permissions->use token and adds this string you gave him. (Alternative member side: fill the token into the connect/bookmark dialog, Annother alternative member side: you sent him a ts3 link via email that can contain nickname, server IP, server port the token to use and even ask the member if he would like to bookmark this server
)
In short: we are gonna add what you want, but you shouldn't use what we're gonna add for the problem you are trying to solve
You think my answer is stupid ? Read This:

well there is a third way c)
i never really used this token thing ītil now...just for a test with a user
way to complicated for many users, that only want to play with their pcīs and got NO clue how to install a prog...or use a token
even if you finally have reached him...and know his email, icq or smthn....til there you found him easily in a list
(yes....there are still pc users, that let their children install their voip software that they can talk while playing an mmorpg)
if youīre online when the user is on that you wanna add...itīs easy; i know
but if heīs offline, you can add him over the "server group rights" with the button "add"
then you need a database ID
and there i thought it would be simple to have a list of the idīs
sry for making tokens unnecessary
but if such a overview comes...great; that was all i wanted to know
cheers

Sending a link that contains the token, server IP, server Port etc. via email is as easy as it gets. "Click on this link to join our TS server" or similar. I am sure as long as the kids can read a bit they should be fine with those instructions

PS: your (c) method is not basic, it is complicated. All you have to identify a client is the last used nick name and the list of clients quickly gets large since every client that ever joins is listed. There are many more ways that a and b (and c!), I was focusing on basic/easy ways, not trying to give you a complete list of how you can add members to groups. You think my answer is stupid ? Peter, key word is "if you know a email".
For instance, in WoW it's typical that people know eachother in game only. No forums, nothing.

well, this is the difference between theory and praxis
for you itīs easy when you send the token via email; very professional
and btw...i didnīt talk about kids that canīt read, i was talking about people, that only know how to open the game and play; like we have one in our guild...and his son installed him ts3
that was what i was saying; talking about reading ;p
when you meet up ingame, you post the ip/port/pw in the chat; no links, no emails ...no copy paste...
now....the praxis...
poeple play together an evening for few hours and the guest is invited into the guild
next day the admin comes and another member tells him...."hey, yesterday there was this guy...his name was...hmmm.....something with D..."
you cklick the list ....."hey...was it Dlkshdgnpiehj?" "hey, yes...heīs a nice guy"
*click* *added*
so what is complicated here? 10 secs work
i know this software can do very much; almost make coffee too; but the most usage is in small guilds/clans i guess
so this situation isnt so far away

armitage, what you describing is the main deficiency of TS3 permissions system.
It just not linked to any real-world applications, except most secure ones used in government, science and military institutions.
