Mutually exclusive permissions - max power

Given the current hierarchical server groups "power" structure, t is impossible to create mutually exclusive server groups in that to make them different one would have high power than the other.

This presents a problem when trying to make two channels say ChanA and ChanB and assign them join permissions from ServerGroupA and ServerGroupB.

Since the power designations of the server groups establishes that one must be more powerful, if ServerGroupA join power=50, and ServerGroupB join power is 40, then I can exclude ServerGroupB from joining ChanA, but I CANNOT PREVENT ServerGroupA from joining ChanB if ServerGroupB can join.

Others have requested the ability to assign "groups" to each channel, and I would certainly like that too, however, I think a reasonable compromise which should not cause havoc to your underliying architecture would be to add:

+ Maximum needed join power.

+ Maximum needed subscribe power.

In this way, the join power of a client or group must fall between a range of power, thereby allowing us to create mutally exclusive groups.


So I would set
ServerGroupA join power = 50
ServerGroupB join power = 40

And to allow a range:
ChanA Needed join power = 46
ChanA Maximum needed join power = 55
ChanB Needed join power = 36
ChanB Maximum needed join power = 45

Or you can make it be exact:
ChanA Needed join power = 50
ChanA Maximum needed join power = 50
ChanB Needed join power = 40
ChanB Maximum needed join power = 40

And replicate the same permissions for "subscribe power" or any other "needed power" attributes.

This seems like a simple and effective fix which should be easy to implement in TS3.
