[Implemented with beta21] Whisper to channel family
Teamspeak featured a function to whisper to your current channel family. Teamspeak3 seems to be lacking this feature. Is that right?
While it is possible to define groups to whisper to per parent channel, I would like to see this feature return in TS3. We use it in a combat air sim to talk on the guard channel. Each flight is situated in his own subchannel, and the flight leads may communicate with each other on the guard channel thru whisper to channel family. By using this one key command, you get the same functionality irrespective of the parent channel you choose (multiple games may be playing simultaneously).

I concurr. This would be a usefull feature. At this moment, i have to set a different whisper list, each time, depending in what subgame channel i am in.
the teamspeak 2 indeed had this nice feature. Can this be done in TS3?

It is possible in build 21 to whisper to an entire family tree wihtout adding each sub channel. Not exactly what you are looking for but it may suffice and is just FYI.

We use whisper to channel family in TS2 a lot in my group. We need it and cannot move to TS3 until this is working.

Thanks for the preview info, but probably insufficient for our purpose. Let me explain a bit more. We have our channels set up as follows:
1. Game #1
1.1 Team #1
1.2 Team #2
1.3 ...
2. Game #2
2.1 Team #1
2.2 Team #2
2.3 ...
3. ...
This way, TS services multiple games concurrently, and each game consists of a number of teams that can talk among each other. The teamleaders can communicate thru the whisper to channel family. All players in the game can hear the whispers, so that it functions like a guard channel on a radio. Exactly what we need. Our setups therefor have to provide just two commands: push to talk, and whisper to channel family.
In TS3 this no longer works. Either you need extra commands for whispering to each game channel, of you need to change the setup of TS3 before starting a game (to whisper to the game channel that you're going to use). The latter is simply inconvenient and a step back from TS2. Multiple whisper commands is not feasible, as we're using the VHF/UHF buttons on a HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick, I'm talking combat flight simulation here) and there are just those two buttons for communication purposes.
I hope that the development team will recognize the usefulness of the whisper commands in TS2 that were relative to the channel you're in, and will implement them in TS3 as well.

I do know exactly what you are looking for and i do see the usefulness of such 'relative' whisper functions. As the whisper system was being worked on for the next release, i was waiting to see if something similar would be added but nothing yet.
After i post this, i will add this request to the appropriate place.
Do you have any other suggestions as far as 'relative' whispering goes? Aside from channel family of course.

Well, now that you mention it

Although we very much need the whisper to channel family back, it never quite worked as I expected it to. See the following thread:
http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthread.php?t=35770
Normally, we're all in the child channels, so this is not a big deal. It just feels wrong the way it worked in TS2. If they're going to code the relative whispers back in TS3, they might just as well fix this.

I will make a note of that, but first thing is first and that is we have to wait to see what they say.
Just to be clear, this in no way means it's a guarantee implementation. It simply means that i made sure to place this where the devs will see this. We won't know until probably at the earliest monday but realistically probably later.
If it does make it into TS3 and the bug still remains you are more then free to post this on the forums. I will be testing it thoroughly as well and i'm sure something like that will get caught by somebody. I agree with the behavior you described as the behavior it should be.

According to dante696 in a post on another thread, Whisper to Channel group is on the todo list and will be implemented soon. You can see the thread here: http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthrea...hlight=whisper

Your suggestion with whispering to channel family makes sense. While it probably could be solved with whisper to channelgroups and a clever channelgroup setup, this doesn't sound very convinient to me and is probably way to complicated. As a sidenote, whisper to channelgroups is already implemented for the upcoming next client release.
Whisper overhaul is so far ready for the next client release. I will try to get your suggestions implemented, but - depending when the release will happen - it might be the release after. So if the next client won't have the channel family whisper, don't despair yet. Once available, please check it out and give us your feedback.
Thanks for the suggestions, feedback is good and if it makes sense, we are usually willing to implement them.

Thanks for your recognition of my suggestions. Great news indeed!
Don't worry about my patience, the last time I checked my bank account, I didn't pay a nickle for TS, so anything you do is greatly appreciated. Keep up the wonderful work. I'm very pleased with the upgrade to TS3.

So, some quick notes about the implementation:
Added 5 new targets for the whisper dialog:
* Complete channel family
* Parent channels
* Parent channels excluding own channel
* Subchannels
* Subchannels excluding own channel
"Complete channel" family will whisper to the whole channel tree (skipping the "excluding own" here, complete means complete).
"Parent channels" means all parent channels up to the top channel are collected. Optionally including or excluding the own channel.
"Subchannels" means the complete subchannel tree below your current channel, optionally including or excluding the own channel.
Of course everything is relative, always based on your current channel when starting to whisper. You could keep your whisper key pressed down and then switch channel and whisper will not update, but IMO catching this would be confusing and overkill.
I hope this should satisfy most demands. Opinions? Now is your chance to criticise:
