Channel Chat?
How do I make it so only one group can chat in a channel while another cant? I set the channel permission to "Send text messages to channel" with an un-checked box. It seems to work as some users say they cannot chat in the channel anymore. However, how can I be sure that it will work for the group I want to chat?

Yes that is the correct permission. Ensure that this permission is granted to the group(s).
If you want to know if this is working correctly create a new identity (or several) and connect to the server in a new tab. I do this all the time to test my permission settings. I have one identity for each server group on my server.

Go to SETTINGS->IDENTITIES and press ADD. each identity you make comes w/ a new unique ID. Once you create a 2nd one (I named mine test 1, test 2, ect.) open your BOOKMARKS menu. From there click on your server and click MORE in the bottom left corner. Now you can select which identity you want to log into the server with. Choose the 2nd identity (or 3rd or 4th) and right click on your server and select CONNECT IN NEW TAB. I have an identity for each server group on my server so I could test permissions with out having to change the group of a single identity.

But how does the server keep track of these identities? I took a look in my identities and saw I only had default in there with a security of 20. I took a look under my bookmarked server and saw that I was under the default group. If I were to edit that default group, wouldn't that mean I can lose my powers? I'm sorry but this is really confusing.

each identity gets it's own unique ID (that really long string of characters / i.e. CHosD2yXxRA8CT2jnIVHeSkRflE= ) press ADD in the identity menu to create a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on.
When you say default group are you talking about a server group? If you are seeing DEFAULT next to your capture/playback that's just the profile name you are using. I never changed mine/renamed it so mine all say default as well.
I posted 2 screenshots. You can see in my bookmarks window where the drop down menu is next to the word IDENTITY. This is where you select an identity that you created in the identity managerLast edited by poisonpanik; 01-06-2010 at 20:20.

This is how my identities look. Does the security level play a part in anything? The server's security level is set to eight. I'm the only admin on my server so I think I can rename the default to admin or something. So, just to make sure, I just create an identity and put it in the user group I want. Then next time I connect using that identity, I should be in that group. Am I right?

That looks fine, I just happened to have created a new ID and deleted the original DEFAULT one. Once you create the ID (in your example the MEMBER ID) open the bookmarks menu left click on your server to select it then select the ID you want to join with then right click on your server and CONNECT IN NEW TAB. once you get on the server you can either use a token or add the 2nd ID to the server group you want to test/experiment with. (probably want to mute your mic to prevent echos if you use voice activation)
Ignore the security stuff for now. DO NOT SET YOUR SERVER HIGHER THAN 20 or so. After 20 it takes a very long time to get the next level.

I appreciate the help for identities there poision. Now that I got that figured out, I'm still having trouble with the channel chat. I've included pictures to show what I mean. My goal is to disable channel chat for the lobby so users who don't have a mic can go into the sub-category Chat Room. There they can channel chat freely. The group whom I don't want to channel chat have the "Send text messages to channel" enabled so they can channel chat in other channels. However, for the lobby, I set the same permission but un-checked the box which should deny it. However, I tried it out using a test group and users can still channel chat. What exactly am I doing wrong?
The order of pictures is from left to right.

That's a good question. I'd have to test out a few settings to be sure if this is possible. My guess is what you want to do is not possible by setting a permission on the Lobby because the text message permissions are client permissions
i_client_needed_private_textmessage_power
i_client_private_textmessage_power
b_client_server_textmessage_send
b_client_channel_textmessage_send
b_client_offline_textmessage_send
(you can see this if you change from SHOW DESCRIPTION to SHOW NAMES in the permissions window at the bottom)

Hopefully you can figure something out. If not, maybe the devs will add a "Needed channel text message power" permission or something along those lines.

I do think it may be working. Whenever I use a test group such as guest or member, I can channel chat the lobby. However, when a user from the same group tries, they get an error. How is this possible?
EDIT: Sorry for the double post. The gateway lagged out.

I couldn't find a permission config to get the result you wanted. What was the config you had to get the result you posted above?
