About the Mac client.. I found where it puts the update.ini, and I made the changes.. but its not downloading beta releases..

I don't believe there is a beta release available right now. It will notify you when there is.

no, in correct. My Linux client notified me of a new beta release.

Actually the the beta21 mac updater was not rebuilt correctly, and hence is not capable of understanding the update.ini changes you made. You will have to wait for beta22 stable release (should be today). Then the update.ini will also work on mac
