    Did you also allow through Windows firewall (common problem). Please also post a server log.

    I have the firewall on my computer completely off, because I'm one of 7 computers on my network behind a router. Although I did add the ports to my firewall in case it was being silly and acting up...

    The log file I have is as follows... I started the server, one of my friends tried to connect (and failed) and that's it.
    Code:
    2012-04-23 04:13:57.906250|INFO    |VirtualServer |  1| listening on 0.0.0.0:9987
    By the research I've done, I'm assuming it's the "listening on 0.0.0.0:9987" part, where the zeros should be my external/public IP. I believe I need to create a ts3server.ini to do this...but what are the contents of this file and then how do I "use" it when starting my server?

    Thread Merged.

    @darkomega
    Please read with carefully the SilentStorm's answer and this thread.

    @bladecx321
    You can't set your external IP in the ini file. This is not how works a personal (home) network.
    Please read the first post of this thread.

    Hold it right there Mr..

    For any future posts, IP address 0.0.0.0 means all IP addresses are used, that the machine has.
    (machine where you start that service, so ifconfig / ipconfig)

    Well I changed my ts3server.ini so that all the 0.0.0.0 ip's were my internal IP address (192.168.1.x). Still not working..

    here's the server log after i changed my 0.0.0.0 to my internal IP...

    Code:
    2012-04-23 16:44:14.703125|INFO    |VirtualServer |  1| listening on 192.168.1.4:9987
    2012-04-23 16:44:23.343750|INFO    |VirtualServer |  1| client connected 'bladecx123'(id:2) from 192.168.1.4:3192

    It does not exist by default, because you only really need it when you want to change multiple Settings, like force the Server to only listen to a single IP on multihomed Servers, change the Query Port or use another Database Backend.

    For more information read the server_quickstart.txt in the doc folder of your server installation. It also mentions how you can automatically create the ini file and then change it to your needs.

    But as I mentioned already you do not really need the file at all.

    Unhappy Failed to connect

    Hello guys, please I need your help. Im starting my own ranked team in league of legends between 5 to 10 people... I went to youtube and watched how to setup a TS3 server. I did it all, but there seems to be a problem... Non of my friends are able to connect to me. Even if I send them the IP with the Password that I use to login or either if I invite them Through an http redirect something. Its always saying error, and failed to connect to server: could no resolve hostname... Please I need your Help.. and as usual ASAP

    I assume you are running the server on your own PC and the IP you send your Friends is starting with 192.168?

    If so then yes that will never work because that IP is local and only valid within your network.
    You need to send them your Global IP which is displayed here. Keep in mind that this IP will most likely change every 24 hours at least, so you will need to supply your friends with a new IP each time yours changes.

    You can use Services like www.dyndns.com or www.no-ip.com which will give your IP a name which you can give your friends and that name will be valid even after your ip changes. All you have to do is have a little tool running which will tell the service your current IP in order to keep it updated.

    @ SilentStorm You are right when I supplied my friends with info the IP was: 192.168.0.3

    After I read your post and clicked under "Displayed here" I did send the my "Global IP" which with starts with 74.76... But also its says Fail to connect to server O.o

    What should I do now ?

    Since you are running the server on your local PC which is sitting behind a router and / or Firewall you need to forward the ports in your router to your PC, so the router knows where to send the traffic coming in on those ports.
    Read this Thread for further Instructions.
