[Solved] Trying to set up clients on a local network for my son!
Hi,
My son and friends are playing computer games sitting in different rooms on seprate computers in our house. They are all connected through a gigabit switch on the same local network. AS I am getting tired of their constant screaming across the house to each other, I searched the Internet and found TeamSpeak, which I hope could be the salvation and get our hose back to a more quiet state
I have downloaded and set up a TeamSpeak server version 3 on my desktop, and I have also installed a client on the same machine, and it is able to connect to the server.
However, when I try to connect to the same server from another computer, it will not connect, so I think there is something I need to know! So if some one out there is more knowledgeable, I would be most grateful!!!

Error message
The "error message" is simply "failed to connect to server" in the bottom part of the client window.
And yes we are on the same LAN behind a D-Link Router. That is ALL local computers in our house are directly connected to a Gigabit switch from D-Link, and this switch in turn is connected to the D-Link Routers which, I guess handles all the outbound traffic??? But maybe I will have to open or forward some ports in the router as well even if we are on the same LAN??? It is not easy for an old man trying to keep up with all the kids new stuff in this digital world!!!
But even if it is very confusing sometimes, it is exciting as well, but I guess I need some guidance from time to time, so I really appreciate that you are taking your time to help me, Florian, in this, maybe, trivial matter!!!

On the computer who host the server, have you an firewall software ?
If yes have you try to turn off this one ?
For information :
Which ports are being used by the server?
Default ports are as follows...
Default voice port (UDP): 9987
Default filetransfer port (TCP): 30033
Default serverquery port (TCP): 10011
Optional
Licence port (TCP) : 2008
Weblist port (TCP) : 2010

Well, IF there is a firewall, it must be anything built into Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. When I went to the Control Panel, I found a Windows Firewall, but TeamSpeak is listed as allowed to commuicate through the firewall.
The ports you have listed above, should I enter them into the D-Link Router settings???

It's not necessary in case to forwared this port in your router, because you use an TS server just in your local network (no external connection).
In your Seven Firewall, when you double click on teamspeak server and select "Protocol and ports" tab, in "local" and "external" port have you "all ports" in the selection ?
In "computer" tab the 2 options are unchecked ?
When you double click on "Network" icon on your desktop, you see the others computers ?
*** EDIT ***
Have your try to run the server as "administrator" ?
(Right click on exe file and select "Run as Administrator")Last edited by florian_fr40; 30-08-2010 at 09:29.
