IAX/SIP and other VoiP Protocols?
Hello
Are there any plans to use VoiP protocols such as IAX (Asterisk PBX, http://www.asteriskpbx.com) or SIP?
It would be very helpfull to use Teamspeak also as an VoiP Client!

I am not sure about all the protocols but most of them negotiate ports which doesnt work when you are behind a NAT router (unless you open up lots and lots of ports which renders NAT more or less useless).
Teamspeaks main goal is to provide a software which does work for everyone (especially people behind routers) without having to go through endless trouble and impossible setups. Thats actually the reason why I use teamspeak.
I think thats the main reason why the H.323 for sure will never be integrated in TS. Besides TS is meant for games people. We all know that it much more than that due to the many nice functions but that doesnt change the initial focus of the coders.

Hello Judas
I was not talking about H.323.
I was talking about IAX which is possible to use over NAT.
OK, SIP is also a problem with NAT.
But IAX and IAX2 would be very interesting!
Greetings

I guess that is exactly the problem:
one wants to have SIP and IAX2 , the other only SIP, the guy from the corner wants to have H 323. Oh and there are as well the Siemens guys with their H 323+,.....
I can't lose the feeling, that this would be a overkill for a free SW like TS ?
Of course it would be nice, but a must have

Nothing wrong with suggestions. My problem is that I cant really figure out what IAX exactly does. On the one hand it looks like its a protocol just sitting in between, allowing the use of different protocols at the same time, on the other hand it has to be a standalone protocol and the software used has just the additional benefit of allowing cross-protocol talking using the IAX.
I think the second assumtion is the correct one but then again I cound't finde much obvious information without going to spend some time reading the documentations.
Anyways. If it is able to work behind routers (server/client) with a minimal set of NAT rules (lets say about 1-3 ports) it would for sure be nice to have. It rather looks like a real Voice over IP solution to me though with all the fancy stuff one can dream about.
Its always good to stay informed about other projects yet i personally think that TS2 has already enough future plans to keep them well busy till 2004 and IAX looks like a rather huge thing to implement. And besides... i think some Macintosh users would become really upset if TS would announce that they would include IAX before doing the Mac port
(not that i actually care about em)

@ApolloDS:
sorry your right !
my "suggestion" to that is exactly what Judas posted. I have / had some engineering background in voice and date gateways. The current TS solutions seems to be an easy and well manageable solution to me. Why "blow" it up ?

Hello again
Why not have a voice-communication software for all needs?
For gaming and talk to other gamers and to talk to VoiP users out in the world.
And I miss on linux more good VoiP clients.
There is one sw-client which support IAX, checkout http://gnophone.com.

Is the TS protocol published?
I am a asterisk user and would like to add cool conferencing to it (asterisk). TS server looks like it would work well, why reinvent the wheel. If TS could speak IAX or IAX2 that would be great. But it would work just as well if the TS protocol was published and any client that wanted to could use it.
Then you can integreate real phones with TS. Have some users call in on a cell, others at thier pcs using ts nativily.

It´s a very cool idea, i´m also interested in integrate Asterisk with TeamSpeak. I´m a hamradio user, and I just experimenting with TeamSpeak, Asterisk, e-QSO, Echolink and I would integrate them with Asterisk.
I´m looking for a channel like app_rpt that integrate the TeamSpeak conferences with Asterisk meetme. I think it would be a cool idea call with IP-phone or with a softphone and speak with different systems.
Thanks a lot for your time
Best Regards

To be perfectly honest, I think you all are asking for completely too much.
It's perfect the way it is. There is no need for any other protocols, the ones used work perfectly fine all around for everything you could ever want to use them for. This is a free program, and what we have in it is already too much, because it's so awesome. You want all these extra features? How about donating to the developers?

If it is everything they say it is, than it won't need improving.
