Since Sony allows you to install a distribution of Linux on the Playstation 3, it might be possible. Currently, we have TeamSpeak 3 clients and servers running on:
    • Windows (32-Bit and 64-Bit)
    • Linux (32-Bit and 64-Bit)
    • Mac OS X (Intel-based and PPC-based)
Let's see what happens after TS3 has been released.

Dam then wannabe PC makers... All consoles should be set to fire.!!

Thanks for the info tho ScP, i never knew that. So even a console is not a real console anymore.. Just a downgraded PC...

Well, the 360 is locked down

At least Sony are allowing you to do it without putting a custom os on

I just finished installing Yellow Dog 5.0 on my PS3 yesterday and I cannot get TS working on it. Its based on fedora core 5.0 so I would think it would work. Everything else made for linux works descent on it. Although I haven't tried installing Quake yet.

I really hope that the PPC based support can be included with the Linux version also. Now that the new YDL kernel adds support for the wireless adaptor it makes the otheros on the PS3 usable to me.

Would be great since I already run a TS2 server on my PC for my fellow RR7 players to actual setup a TS3 server running on a extra PS3.

    And "Hello" (First post)

if you looked some closer you would have seen that ScP talked about TS3.
At the end of the year you can try.

So, we have the TS3 beta, anyone try it on a PS3 yet and care to share the results? When I downloaded TS3 today I didn't see a Linux PPC version, just 32 or 64 bit for Linux and a PPC version for Mac.

    Thumbs down

yeah, uhh... Now Sony is removing the option for a secondary operating system on the PS3, so newer models won't have it... stupid sony...

Correction: The 3.21 firmware removes it from all PS3 models. This is really the dumbest thing Sony has done that I can remember. Next closest dumb move on their part being that they thought consumers in US were smart enough to see the tech advantages of Beta-max over VHS and not advertise.

I'm not installing this new firmware as I use the OtherOS. If the TeamSpeak devs still want to make a version of TS3 server I would love to use it (I'd even help alpha test it as best I can). But I'm aware that the sudden drop in boxes that can run it may make them decide not to make it.

I'm not letting this topic die.. I still have a PS3 with Linux PPC support. Still have my YellowDog install disc too. Still willing to test if server/client is compiled.

If a developer needs to remote into the PS3, and can guide me through the process to allow that, I would even consider letting you use it if needed.

The developers main target is, to develop for the core operation systems. They don't know yet, what will happen in the future after the final realese.

My Opinion: Sony does not support Linux anymore on their PlayStation3 "for security resons < LOL" (everything else is a hack), so I don't think that it should be compiled for the PS3.
