CRITICAL|DatabaseQuery need advise to get it back to work

the server is Linux (debian 32bit) based, it has been working fine before.
Today I got the following error and the server can not be started anymore.

1429 2011-08-17 10:11:21.698512|ERROR |DatabaseQuery | | db_exec failed disk I/O error
1430 2011-08-17 10:11:21.698776|ERROR |DatabaseQuery | | db_exec() update clients set client_nickname='TSViewer.com DBscan REG 933772' wh error: disk I/O error

If I stop and start the server, I receive the following message:
2011-08-17 11:40:25.805620|CRITICAL|SQL | | unable to remove old log entries error: database error

Is there a way to repair the DB??

Does anything else work on this machine? Failed disk I/O error sounds like a bad hard drive.

First of all disk I/O error sounds not good.

It seems to me from remote that the database file died at the write operation. So I'd try to launch the server with the last backup of the database.
