I am hosting the server from my normal PC which I use for everything, so I was wondering how "safe" TS3 hosting is.

Example:
If someone connects, and let's say his PC is infected is there any chance that a well programmed virus can make his way on my PC? I am not very advanced in this virus stuff so any explanation is welcome!

And are there any "basic" security tricks which are recommended if hosting a server on Windows?

And yes I know if someone knows my IP theres always a way to hack me, but I want to think of infected PCs connecting, not of people connecting to my server with bad purposes.


btw: How did I remove my server from the public list again?

Uncheck: Tools > Edit Virtual Server > Misc > "Enable reporting to server list"

Yea, but the idea was how clever could a virus on my friends pc be? Is it possible that this virus can spread to my PC when I'm hosting a server? In this case my friend is not the maker of the virus, hes just infected.

Hello.

As a postman, the server receives, holds and deliver packets but he doesn't "open" them. The virus comes inside the "packet" and it's when the user opens it (executing the programm, macro, etc) when the virus appears in his PC.

The server is not affected if one of the users writes in the chat a link to a infected webpage or uses the FileExplorer to upload a file with a virus inside. The virus comes from a user and goes to another; the server does not have to be affected.

Thanks! That helped me alot! Now I can host my server without being afraid.

So the "packet" is opened by the clients, but I think a virus can't be so clever and go through audio-data to a other client.
Because that would mean that ICQ etc. is also risky...
