Couple of Questions regarding a totally new beginner setup
Hi and welcome everyone,
I'm definately completely new with teamspeak, read myself into the docs and into some installation guides these days and set up my own server. The basic usage I'm after isn't for gaming purposes at all, more to replace multiple messengers people use and used to use, thats why there are still questions after reading quite a load of information:
Running latest x86 3.0.5 server on debian
- Is there a way to kind of hide everyone from everyone except for the serveradmin and users who have each other in their contactlist?
- How do I disable the connection to country feature as it is not required at all for anyone to see where someone is connecting from. Brutally block the connection to geo2iplocation (or however it's called from what I read on the forum already)?
- How do those user levels actually work/When are they changed? I also read about that in the forum but I'm still lost about the fact how users gain or lose those levels. This is important as nobody is going to be allowed to talk on the default channel unless granted.
- The quality/codecsettings for speech are to be set where exactly? The ones im referring to are the ones I read about in the FAQ (speex25,9 and so on)
- I have not found information about how to "flag" (?) the server as private and how to have it not showing up on any lists at all. Please guide me on this one as well.
- Is this true when I assume that none of the configuration is being done through files but through server query and as serveradmin?
- When the license by default (so no license) says 32 slots, does that mean 32 people can get on?
- I might be asking about how to send files, but I think I'll give the docs another chance and browse the board/web for that before I'll ask as I couldn't find anything in the client as I am used to it (rightclick on user -> send file or similar)
I hope I'm not violating the board rules in any way and that I'll find some good help here. Cheers and thank you so far dear helpers
//edit
I'll attach this link for later usage for myself, it looks like it's something that will help me: http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthrea...ide-EVERYTHINGLast edited by deviant; 02-05-2012 at 09:28.

1 & 2. There is no way to hide everything,
this has been said before and you guided to the thread already.
You only can hide your users, as long the client can't join a channel and does not have subscribe power.
And you can hide the ip, when the permission b_client_remoteaddress_view is not set for non-admins.
3.What do you mean with levels?
We use Talk Power (and then username), to sort them in the tree. There is no real difinition, of a level, when you use custom groups.
4. The speex FAQ was for TeamSpeak 2. You can see the quality and Bandwith under the Channel edit dialog.
5. You can hide your virtual server in the weblist, when you
"Right-click on the server > Edit Virtual Server > Press on "More" > Misc > and now uncheck "Enable reporting to server list"
6. A server without a license allows 32 users only. You can use all these slots.
7. You can send files, per filebrowser to a user or whole channel.
Open the browser, and drag the file into the current chat or channel description,
or right-click the file and copy the URL and paste it to the target.
I hope these answers help you here.---------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your detailed reply, let me get back to some of those points
Alright, no hiding for everything. But what do you exactly mean by saying "You only can hide your users"? I'm not really into all that teamspeak technical stuff yet (used to config files, the usual *nix style, eg: irc services and so on ^^), so from what I've seen there has to be at least one channel by default for users who connect to the server to also join the channel. Can that be forbidden?
I'm not really sure how to call them (and I dont have a client at hand right now), in example: when you go to your identity manager, each and every identity seems to have some kind of level/power which can be raised. And I think those powers are also to be seen here and there when connected to a server, being helpfull with permissions, aka need at least level 1 to be able to talk.
Alright, I wasn't sure if this is what I was looking for since a lot of options need to be set through server query. So it can be set for each channel by just dragging this bar from left to right. Great, very easy ^^
Oh great, that is the option I wanted to find
Regarding the rest of your answers: thank you a lot big time, I'll take a look at the so called filebrowser when I am at home again. Really great help from your side, appreciated a lot!

I explained, how you can hide users, right after these words. You can't hide them, as long the user who should not see them is in the same channel. Subcribe power = This can hide the users in a channel (as long the user is not in there).
The level is only important, when the server owner raises the level on his server.---------------------------------------------------------

Very well, I'll read myself into it some more regarding levels and powers. Thank you for your help so far. Since I have not found the option to solve my own thread, I like you to do this for me

It's done

How do I make my TS3 Private server Unpublished?
I have spent hours on this forum and Googling, and have yet to find out HOW to do this. I can only find that we are told to do it if we don't want random people just joining our server.
Some help with steps would be great.
Thank you!

I guess understand, you want to delete your server from the weblist
In that case:
Right click on the server name (top of the channels tree) > Edit virtual server > Misc > uncheck-box "Enable reporting server list"
Thread has been merged
