    [Suggestion]Serverside nicknames

I think it would be nice to have an option to assign a nickname to a unique ID. This name would then not be allowd by anyone else who connected to the server. This would help prevent subterfuge.

other hint would be about bad_names list or disallowed_names for nicks.

maybe chat filter in a way that if someone f**k too much ban-cooldown
lets say grouping by a reason. and implement also after what time it will reset. maybe forbiden words for chat could be regular expression....
    unfinished idea.

someone other ideas how to,and what it should do?

I too would like to see something done about the user names. If "Joe" is a user on my server, another member can simply change their name to "Joe" as long as the real "Joe" isn't logged onto the server. This brings up the problem with users being able to mimic another user (in name only). This can make things confusing, or even bring about undesirable problems between members. Especially on a clan server, where one member gets upset at others, and mimics a name of say an admin or some other leader within that clan to stir the pot more.

Also, I wish there was a public bug/feature tracker we could use to compile all the suggestions and issues into a single location. :|

    Exclamation

Yea that bad word thing should be included, and also when you're on a server you should not be able to mimic other peoples names.

For a small amount of people there is a reasonable way to prevent mimicing another user. Just add the User that should not be mimiced to your friendlist. Then add a custom nickname for him.

There's another good thing about this: Your friend can change his nickname as often as he like's, his custom nickname will always show!

If that happens on your server, you should definitely excersise disciplinary action. That is just not acceptable...

This could be a useful feature for large public servers. Smaller clan servers would find less use for it though.

so what happens if you reserve a nick like "ralf".
so someone comes with "r a l f" or "r_alf" ... not to mention all the fency unicode chars...

what we would do? accept that? starting using regex und wasting cpu cycles?

I'd be happy with an exact match being checked, no need to be fancy.

I just find it irritating that someone can make their name someone else's normal nick and join a channel, and unless they say something you have no idea if it is them or not.

    edit:

no idea if it would be too much work, but optionally allowing a username/password setup would help a bit, even moreso for people that wish to integrate an outside database of usernames as a form of authentication to a teamspeak 3 server. For example, a vbulletin install that uses the username field in the database for teamspeak login names, plus a hidden to the public profile field for the password the user wishes to use to connect.

Question [Request] Nickname tied to uniqueID to enhance accurate identification

There could be a server admin way to seal a NickName of a currently logged in person so it can only be used by that person and their ID.

    Why?

Nobody can fake the Unique ID but nobody actually memorizes all those random ID's and only looks at the name. Yes you could add them to your friends list and give them your own name, but if someone knows what you call them, they could just come in with that name instead just to con you into thinking its your friend.

If someone gets their current NickName sealed to their UID, then if someone else logs in with that NickName, it would treat it as if the original user was already there and force the other fake person to have a number at the end of some such thing.

You can already do that by add them to your Friend List as you said. While others can still use the nickname you can easily tell its fake because it will not show in green letters for you.

Other option: modify the user description is only for the admins, then once the user has been registered by the admin he fills the description field including the Nickname for the server (and other data of general interest) and if user changes the nickname any registered user can 'see' the oficial information just reading the user description.
