since Client 3.0.7: The identity of this server has changed

Using TeamSpeak 3 Client 3.0.7 (2012-06-14 15:03:00)

I've connected, just for test some questions in the forum about people can't connect to its habitual server, to two servers and in both i've got this warning window:

In both cases i've answered 'Not' and then the client disconnected.

can anybody explain what this warning means or signifies or implies?

It tells, you that this is not the same server as it was, when you have connected to it the last time.

If you choose no, the client disconnects. Because the client asks, to accept it to stay connected

Wouldn' that imply that the Client maintains some sort of IP - UID Mapping to be able to compare the UID to the current one? If so I failed to locate it so far.

If that bookmark is used and the UID of the server reached does not match the one stored from the last successful connection prompt the user. I would also guess if the user selects to remain connected the UID stored is updated.

Yeah figured the only possible Place for this to happen would be bookmarks... however I think Pota first had this with a random Server from someone who had issues with his Server and posted the Address... somehow doubt he had random servers in his bookmarks and was there before. But since there doesn't seem to be any other place....

Ok, I think this is the explanation. I've got an entry in the bookmarks to test the connections and till now i changed the server address and directly 'connect in new window'. This message appeared with the last beta 3.0.7 (probably 'cause was when i tested connections) and almost sure is due to Screech's hypothesis.

Maybe the developers can had a logical to delete the stored server UID if the address of a bookmark is changed to prevent this confusion.

Maybe it would be a good idea... 'cause the second point 'The security of your connection to this server is compromised, a man-in-the-middle attack is taking place' "sounds" terrifying when you are using a wi-fi connection and knowing 'the man-in-the-middle' is present then directly the answer is 'NO': leave the server and left the man-in-the-middle out.

Or include a third case in the warning window: you are using an existent bookmarks entry to connect to other server.

The whole message only appears, when the last server uid is not equal to the server you are trying to connect to.
And a man in the middle attack could be one reason (also when a hoster sends user to another server, as have tried to connect to.

Hi,

Im not great with this techy stuff but i have a concern of this notifcation comign up when i try to join my freinds TS3 server. the erro says this could be one of the reasons:

- A new teamspeak server is running at this address
-The security of your connection to this server is compromised, a man-in-the-middle attack is takign place.

Please could someone explain how to resolve this is understandable way im not a computer tech type.

Bassically i got kicked and banned from my allaince server because they could prove that somone was using my connection to listen to our conversations. I believe this man in the middle attack is happening to me and i want to know how to stop it.

Please let me know if this makes sense and i will try to explain it better, i really need a fix as i wont be able to join another allaince with potential enemies using my teamspeak to listen to our conversation.

Either means they deleted their old Server Database and the server is in fact new or that the client is connected to another IP than it expected / was connected last time you used that server. Ask them if you got any other method of contact to them if they changed anything to their server. If they did it's probably safe to ignore the warning and connect anyway.

The latter could have several reasons like they switched the Hoster and kept their old Address forwarding to the new Hoster, their Servers IP changed etc (see above and contact them asking whether this is the case) or there is indeed a Man in the Middle... Check your PC for viruses / Malware etc. preferably with at least one Live CD which you can download from various Anti Virus Software Vendors (Like Kaspersky, BitDefender etc) for free. You should download and burn such CD(s) at a Friends Place. THen just boot your PC from those CDs and let them check your PC.

Tried to connect to one of my TSDNS connections today. I was connected to the wrong server (a different one of mine)...

A dialogue popped up saying something about a changed identity, a middle man attack, and asked if I want to remain connected. I clicked yes.

When I reconnected I still connect to the wrong server, but the box doesn't pop up anymore or I'd provide a screenshot.

I do not understand.

Has anyone seen this, or can tell me what I can do to fix?

Within the past hour it has fixed itself. I connected to the correct server this time although the dialogue appeared.

This was odd, and happened to other people trying to connect to the server. Not just myself.

Developers...is this dialogue box a recent addition to one of the newer builds?

This dialogue is included in client 3.0.7

In my case, i think is the same as yours, the dialogue appears when you 'reuse' a bookmarks entry: if you were connected to a server and then you change the server address in the bookmark and reconnect to the new one then --> man-in-the-middle. If you know that, then answer yes and no more man-in-the-middle.

Now to find out why this is happening...my TSDNS fails to forward to the correct server port sometimes resulting in this dialogue.
