Restrict channel group assignment to people in the same room only?
Hi
Here is my problem I cannot figure out. When I set channel groups, I want a channel admin to be able to assign other channel groups to people who are in that channel with them. The problem is when I give access for them to assign channel groups, they can assign them anywhere even to people who are in totally different channels.
Example, I have a room with a needed join power of 100, then I make a channel admin group with a join power of 100 and assign that to the channel admin. Then I have another basic channel group with a join power of 100, that can be assigned to people to just let them join that private room. The problem I am running into is that channel admin can give ANYONE on the entire server that join = 100 channel group.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Please check the i_group_needed_member_add_power of that second group. It must be set and the value should not be -xxxx or 0

It has a value. Let me ask the question another way. What makes a server admin group able to assign channel groups to people in any room simply by right-clicking the person and selecting a channel group for them? That is the effect I am having.

Them having a serverwide i_group_member_add_power.
Most likely the User able to do that gets an i_group_member_add power >= the i_group_needed_member_add_power of that second Channelgroup from his Servergroup or from his Client Permissions.
Oh and: DO NOT USE THE ADMIN SERVER QUERY GROUP FOR NORMAL CLIENTS!!! EVER!!!

So my admins will always be able to assign that rank unfortunately... At least the good thing is they can only assign it to someone if they are already in that room. But still it could cause issues if someone drags someone into a room and then gives them that channel group to always get in
Is there any way to make a channel group only assignable by a channel admin so that a server admin cannot assign it?

Sure, Permissions required for this have been mentioned in this thread a couple times...

What I mean is have channel groups that can only be assigned by a channel admin, thus preventing server admin's from assigning certain channel groups to people. Currently server admins can assign anything they want. But I have a couple of channel groups I would like to prevent all server admin's from assigning so that they can only be assigned by a channel group admin.
Things mentioned in this thread so far seem to be the generic permission limiting, which ends up still letting server admin's assign everything because they need add powers high enough to make sure normal server groups can be assigned?

In general Server Admins (as the name suggests) are the Top Tier there is hence they can do whatever they want, whereever they want.
Putting channel admins above Serveradmins sounds like a bad idea to me but anyways...
to do what you want your Channel Admin Channelgroup needs a high enough i_group_member_add_power to assign the other Channelgroup. ServerAdmins would need to have a lower Value in the same permission.
However this would also mean that CHannel admins in any channel could assign Servergroups to anyone in any channel where they also have Channel admin. Either that or you would cripple your ServerAdmins in such a way they wouldn't be able to assign server admin anymore...
Don'T get my wrong but you seem to lack basic understanding of how the Permissions System work....

I know enough to do most things and have set up my server pretty nice. I am just trying to understand the possibilities and limitations. Many people on here said isolating people to certain rooms was "impossible" until I read a sticky thread which documented exactly the tricks (ways of configuring permissions) to easily obtain those "impossible" results. Just because I cannot figure out the way to do something does not mean it is not possible for someone else. Rather than assume it is impossible I prefer to come here and ask just in case.
