Solved A problem with my server

I managed to create my own Teamspeak 3 server yesterday. It worked fine, had members of my gaming team online etc and everything was great.

Now I am totally out of my depths with anything that involves something technical (I just about know where to plug in my keyboard!)

I understand that the server runs on my computer and that I need to have it on to keep the server running. I restarted my computer for updates and when it reloaded both myself and my partner couldnt connect back to the teamspeak server.

Is there any reason for this? I recreated a 2nd server without messing around with any port forwarding etc and it all worked fine, and my external IP is exactly the same etc (sorry if Im pointing out the obvious).

We can now reconnect but I am assuming this is to a brand new server now (all the channels have gone etc).

The question I'm asking is how can I ensure that I dont have to recreate a new server every time I turn my computer off? I want to be able to turn off my computer every now and again but when it reboots just relog into the same server with any pre-created channels or permissions etc that I have setup!

I was sure that I had made my IP address static (if this is perhaps a reason) but in all honesty I am totally lost as it is WAY above my technical abilities!

Apologies for the babble of text and for my lack of searching these forums for any other answers but I just dont have the time or skills to work out anything 2nd hand! Sorry and look forward to your answers!

Stupid question, when you reboot your PC, you are restarting the Teamspeak server aren't you?

Assuming you're installing it on a Windows box, I tried installing the latest server version (3.0.6.1 (32 bit)) on my Vista PC. Once unpacked & run for the first time, it showed me my server admin login info & privilege key, which I saved to a file.

On connecting for the first time it prompted me for my privilege key, which I entered. I now had server admin access on the Teamspeak server & created a few permanent channels.

After rebooting my PC I restarted the Teamspeak server, logged in & all my own created channels were still there.

If this isn't how it went for you, how did you do the initial install?

When I rebooted and I opened up my Teamspeak to login it just wouldnt connect. It kep on saying "failed" for both myself and my partner trying from a different computer.

So I re-created a brand new server (which obviously has nothing to do with the first one).

So basically what stopped me from reconnecting after my system rebooted, and how can I sort it so I dont have to constantly keep creating new servers (which is obviously stupid and I dont want to do).

You haven't yet said if after rebooting the PC, you actually STARTED the Teamspeak server before trying to log in with the Teamspeak client. It won't start itself

And how did you create a brand new server? If you just clicked on the Teamspeak you previously downloaded & ran, your original server would have started.

Errr you need to start it? Told you I was a bit technically challenged. How do I start the Teamspeak Server? I just tried to reconnect via the client assuming the server would run automatically when my PC rebooted.

Sorry for being stupid but does that mean I can start and stop the server whenever I like? As in just turn it on for my gaming with friends then turn it off again afterwards?

Thinking that the server was broken because of something I had done I deleted the database file and just started again from scratch to create a new server.

Man I am so back at technology it is unreal

Wherever you unpacked Teamspeak you clicked on an application to create your initial server, it will only create a new server once. Once it's created and running, you should see an icon on your taskbar near the clock, you can stop the server from here (right-click >> exit).

The easiest way to start it would be to right-click on the Teamspeak application (where it was unpacked), select Send to >> Desktop (create shortcut), you can then start the server by double-clicking the desktop icon
