DSL Router Help plz

I know this is already out there on the forums, but it is so confusing.

I have a linksys dsl router and it is hooked up 2 my other computer.

When I connect my USB cable directly from my tower to my modem it gives me my external IP which is 4.something but when i use my ethernet 2 connect to my router, it gives me the 192.something IP. i also get another ip that is 162.something that is my router-modem ip but i dont know because when i disabled it it did nothing to my connection status. i know it has something 2 do with the 192. so please tell me what i need to do to get my server 2 work so me and my friend can talk. thanks.
