Silence in game

Hi, Ive noticed that a few people seem to have the same problem, I can talk and receive messages regularly while just running TS, but when I login to Tribes 2 I lose all sound. I cant hear anything from any prgram untillI restart. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My stats are: Windows 98 se, Hercules Fortissimo 2, Athlon 1Ghz, DX 8.1, newest drivers, and I play Tribes 2.

You changed the sound device in TS to direct x ?
Normaly direct x allows the simultaneous use of one sound device by several programs ....

That's what Ive heard from other posts, however there is no option for 'Direct X' anywhere in any of the 4 catagories of sound devices.

You have 2 options Using Wave-in/out(default) and below that using Direct Input/Out

Direct in/output is DirectX

Thanks, well I feel like an idiot, Ill try those settings and get back to you on how it works.

Same situation here but setting TS to Direct X did not help i can talk and hear others before i go into a game but once there the game sound is gone and TS recieve sound is gone (i can still transmit but not hear others) if i return to the desktop and shut TS down then i go into the game and the sound is there this affects all my games the same way CS, SOF2, GTA3, and so on.. funny thing it worked perfet last night no changes were made but today it won't work???????? I have uninstalled TS and reinstalled at no prevail. (nothing in the games or volume control is muted)

win XP
TS V 5.1.0.6
AvanceAC'97 onboard Audio
256 ram

NEVER MIND!!!! Found The Solution... the last and only thing left to do I did (update sound drivers) that did the trick All works fine now

, I always update my drivers/bios and stuff. It ussually makes things better, but on occation it has also fouled things up.
