certain [win?]clients + oss + sb live! + linux client

Hi,

found aout about a very strage bug.

What happens:

Some clients (2 in our clan, thats about 2 out of 20, both run win) cause the linux client not to hear them, but to corrupt all sounds playing (the game sounds + TS sounds are corrupted, or plain gone). This only happens when this specific win-client is transmitting, and only to the linux guys that are using oss [me using alsa doesnt get it]. All Linux gamers in our clan have SB-Live. Of course, I am willing to present you [devels] with such a win-gamer, so you could see it for your self...

No reason to laugh at it. I know myself that the chances for simple clientsettings causeing the problem you are describing are rather slim but you dont give any information about what you have tried. You just say that certain clients cause the prob without going into further detail.

Its only corrupting linux clients on oss, ok so far, but why being ignorant of the clients that cause the problem?

If you have gone through all the settings with them clients and have tested whatever possible then maybe you should say so instead of giving not all that constructive answers.

ah

OK,

now I understood your point =). I was thinking you were suggesting to the linux clients to change to direct sound... . It never occured to me that changing anything about winclient would fix the problem, I mean, ok, it might fix it up for this one case, but face it, NO fellow client setting should be able to corrupt all the sounds going on on my system right ?
Well, I will get together the apropriate guys and let them do some testing, I'll keep you posted on the results [might help find where the problem lies].

hmmzzz the more ts is used, the more weird things come to be

This one sounds to weird for words.. Output from some win client cause some linux oss users to hear shit.

You say the ts sounds were even corrupted? Please explain more.

And is it corrupted all the time, or just when the 2 windows guys speak?

Well...

Ok,

it happens only when the win guys are transmitting. What I hear then is

TS-Sounds:
Nobody talking is understandable, some static noise comes from time to time, but not very orderly static [not one buzzing], sounds like when you turn the tuning knob of a radio Id say.

Other sounds: some I hear fine, but most of them (variying amount of degree) just dont get played (maybe as static, id say - but thats hard to say, might be ALL the static is ommitted q3 sounds, we gotta do some testing on it). Like, I fire my gun in quake3, and i never hear the sound of the rocket leaving my weapon (only see it).
