Renting Teamspeak servers?
I'm wondering if there are any other companies that can host a teamspeak server for us. We had signed up with the Holdout company that you endorse on your site. Our TS went down within 3 days. We emailed Holdouts inquiring as to why this happenend and this is the response they sent us:
"First of all when TS crashes it is a TS issue. It crashes once in a while and I can't control it. I am hoping they fix the issues with the new version coming out Monday. I am refunding your money cause for $11 a month I have better things to do than deal with getting letters like this for TeamSPeak issues. So your refund is on the way.
Stefan
Holdouts"
We would go with another company; however, they are the only one listed by you. Also I wanted to let you know the kind of customer service they are providing to the Teamspeak users that you send their way. Hopefully you will be able to suggest some one else that we might be able to use.............
Thanks.

hhhmmmm well, your letter may just have caused him to lose more than $11/month.
I will check around a bit to find some companies in NorthAmerica that will do TS, heck maybe I will set one up.

Stefan at HOLDOUTs is a good guy - he re-boots the server as soon as a email is sent.
I would recommened him for a TS host anyday of the week - sure it crash's - it also happens on a Windows box I have here at home as a back up IP.

Why not just use crontab to restart the process when it does crash?.. I've setup a little program that works with crontab, that will check the tss process, if its not running it will restart it. That being said the ts server on my linux box hasn't crashed in the past 30 days!.

Hey Peets you forgot to post your initial letter to me which was:
"OK well this is only 3 days into service with you guys and already the service has fallen. Is this going to be a constant problem??? I am coming to you as a customer who expects great service from those I am paying for such service. If this is a problem that is uncontrolled and you can promise that service failure will not be a problem then I will stay with you all. If this is going to happen often then I would like a refund and I will seek service elsewhere."
So since (as Basset points out above) these things crash once in a while, I couldn't guarantee it and gave you your money back (which you asked for). So when you ask for other TS companies, make sure you qualify it with your "no-crash" guarantee.

Yeah, Stefan was really nice when we dealt with him prior to our server going down. He did send another email letting us know that we had caught him at a bad time and he didn't mean to be so harsh with us (that was paraphrased ).
Thanks for your replies.

Yeah it was a bad time for me. Thanks for replying back Peets. If you want me to bring up your TS server again I will. I can try to get that CRONTAB thing to work and get them to restart automatically when they crash. Thanks and I know you weren't trying to be mean, like I said it was a bad time (wife mad, kids crying, etc...). I wasn't trying to be mean either.

Holdouts server rentals
The T2 tribe Mature Asskickers has been using holdouts services for several months now. Yes it went down twice, but he re-started it as soon as we sent him an email. Good service, good price and good man to deal with in my opinion. I highly recomend holdouts as a TeamSpeak provider.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the offer of bringing it back up. We would like that very much. From the very beginning from browsing the Holdouts website and the dealings that we had with you in setting up the server (you were very fast) we have thought that this was a great company. Thanks for posting this and I will follow it up with a formal email request asking you if you will reinstate our service. It wasn't a "huge" deal that the TS went down, our experience with TS had only been occasional crashes, so we didn't really know what to expect. I can certainly understand being caught at a bad time and I would recommend Holdouts in the future. In future crashes, we will simply send an email letting you know it is down. Thanks again for the reply Stefan.

Okay, I guess I don't have to set up to provide this. LOL
Glad to know there is a good server out there.

Group hug!
Stefan, does the server completely exit or does it die and hang around? The latter is hard to detect and fix, but the former is easy. Most people who run Half-Life and Tribes servers use some kind of wrapper to restart them when they die. For Windows, there's some magic program that just invokes your crash-happy program in a loop. For Linux, a simple shell script suffices. Check on the Half-Life server admin mailing lists to see what's state of the art for restart programs.

re
I also just want to jump on the Holdouts bandwagon!! I am not even the TS service owner, and when I sent Stefan email about editing my clans server.ini file to post the TS data to the web he did so near immediately. I turned around and requested a change to it a day later and boom! he was on it no questions asked! Our server has not crashed once in couple months that I can remember. Holdouts is top notch and more importantly he is a GAMER SUPPORTER!!! Without these guys, gamers would live in a different world. Thanks Holdouts!
