Yes. We try to push out new alpha builds on daily basis, but sometimes we work on quite substantial changes. Like I stated earlier, active development of TS5 began in April 2018 so you can device the number of days by the number of alpha builds to get a better idea. If you're interested, here's a graph showing the commit stats for the last 2000 commits that were made in the TS5 client repo:

Yes that is a channel Banner. **The design may change for first release.
Channel Banners are only available in TS5. They differ from setting images into the description.

Again... I value all of your opinions, but I want to limit this thread to constructive feedback and meaningful questions. Everything else will be deleted without any comment.

So why not increase the number of alpha testers for faster testing? So you imply that the reason of the - in your opinion - slow progress is the lack of testers? I highly doubt that.
Your 200-300 people are coming with the closed beta, in TeamSpeak's case.

You can have two projects with the same progress towards the finish. Just because one developer calls it "Alpha" and the other one names it "Beta", it is still in the same state of being finished.

I can understand you point, but I guess thats highly based on the demand to get your own hands on the client. I mean same goes for me, but still, without any insights how they develop it, it's pretty unfair to criticise their methods, just based on (coming or missing) results.

Right now, we have around 60 people testing the alpha (including friends, family, trusted users and business partners). We're in a phase of development where we're tweaking things in the UI on a daily basis to give it a final touch for the beta... and even when we're in beta, I still think the UI is subject to change based on community feedback. It's "Your Team. Your Rules." after all.

We're trying to create an awesome user-experience for you... we're still TeamSpeak... not another Slack for gamers like our competitors.

Will TS5 be Desktop Client only? Or will there be a Web Client aswell?

Will there be an increase in Voice / Codec quality (TS3 and or TS5)?

Will it be possible to share pictures and video files directly in the (channel) chat?

Why do you want to keep TS3 Client active? Because of lower system requirements or professional users / authorities?
E.g. TS5 for Gamers and Communities and TS3 for Corporates.

Well as we know for a fact that not a single person except ScP cares to respond i also have a few questions for you sir.

1) How much work according to you in terms of percentage 1-100% is remaining from the target set before you can release the server on beta.

2) The new server for TS5 will consume more hardware than its normal usage?

3) Now that you have mentioned that you are only using 60 people to test this stuff I'd also give suggestion to trust people more and reach out to more people like servers with sponsorship license and many others. If you think 60 people can test something out it will take a miracle to bring a closed beta version in 2019

No, but you won't be able to use the beta without an account that's unlocked for TS5.

Obviously, a modern UI will need more RAM than the Qt based UI in TS3. In terms of CPU usage, I'd say the requirements of TS5 are about the same if not lower.

Thank you for the (very promising) answers :)

As a software developer myself i am quite excited what you guys will bring us with TS5.

Also the news on RAM and CPU usage are well appreciated.
So my hopes are high that TS5 will be completely native and well optimized, not like that awful Web-Apps or the need for an runtime environment.

Well... it's hard to give you an exact number. Developing software is not like building a brick wall... you can't take the total number of bricks and extrapolate a release date. Anyway... I'd say we're definitely more than 90% ready for beta.

Actually, we're at alpha255. Please note, that a build number (or a Git tag name in this case) is not a reliable indicator for progress.

Constructive feedback:

What do you think in terms of Teamspeak doing away with numerical notations, ex: TS"3" TS"5", and just call the product Teamspeak for the final release, nothing else is needed. I'm not talking about version numbers, just the whole TeamSpeak 2,3,5... Many people are confused by this and it would certainly make it easier for users on the whole server/client as well as a marketing perspective.

Question:

Similar to the TeamSpeak 3 beta where it was 2 years until fully released and features ceased to be implemented. Will this happen with TeamSpeak 5 as well? Has TeamSpeak changed its way of doing things and vowed that when TeamSpeak 5 is fully released that it will still be honored with features and changes wanted by users, which hasn't happened with TS3?

AFAIK they are planning to develop future Teamspeak Server versions for more platforms like ARM,
as stated in some older posts from the TS5 or Server discussion thread.

The TS5 beta won't last for 2 years and we'll continue to add new features even when we've reached a stable release.

You said that TS3 and TS5 will use the same server software, so does it mean that people can be connected to the same channels even if they use the different versions ? If so how will the global chats be handled by TS3 ?

all TS5 features will not exist on TS3, TS3 will surely not have the global chat, only the new client will be able to recover their data.

My Personal Feedback and Questions

Hello,

I have been using TS for years, self hosted on a linux server, and would like to make the following recommendations for TS5.

In terms of technicality, please take the following into consideration:
- Easy deployments via APT (most probably package manager for linux users)
- CLI Interface improvements
- Docker image available
- Persistent storage available VIA encryption
- File System organization for Bots (i.e. bots will be stored in TSServer/Bots/AudioBot)
- Database flexibility(compatible with Cassandra, mongo, etc...)
- CLI Based client would be cool if it doesnt exist as well

Now for my personal opinions on the front end:
- From the solved twitter puzzle, it is clear that it is either a photo rendition or just a bad design. I personally hate the web based approach that discord takes but it does look pretty on all resolutions. Even though you did a qt based front end for TS3, I believe you can still make a beautiful front end with-ought the use of web design. Or in other words, if your developers are capable of more than html puzzle solving... lol.
- Hot swapable audio codecs (some sort of drop down menu in a corner?)
- Multiple server split-screen capabilities (i.e. being able to open two chats from two different servers at the same time). Discord lacks this feature and it would definitely be cool.
- Do NOT make the TS overlay optional in the installer. Instead, either make it a separate product or make it integrated into the actual software. Some people consider it essential, and some people consider it bloatware so you should follow suite.

Now for my questions:
- Is there any plans for making TS5 integrated into unity or unreal game development. I can see multiple indie developers integrating TS5 as their voice comms backbone just by importing the library... would be cool IMO (and something discord does not do!)?
- Will TS5 include VOIP integration for games such as Tarkov?
- Can I become a alpha/beta tester? (I had to try lol)

Please consider proper software development cycles. Iterative Design, User Testing and Acceptance. There's still a lot of work to be done.

The only thing they can reliably tell is, if they really can is what they are currently focusing on, as it may help gauge how much work there is left to do. But I do not expect any of this.

It's not like they are not actively working on it, we've seen otherwise, it's just very important to get it right the first time. A failed launch of teamspeak 5 would have a serious consequence within the market

I have a feeling there is no ready when it’s ready they are just going to keep working on it as much as possible until Gamescom and make some kind of party release there, for me it’s such a bad idea they can’t afford another month of losing people to the competition so I really hope this isn’t the case.

Can you at least release some more images? Puzzles? Anything would be nice st this point.

Yep agreed, a few good pics would be nice. I can't even remember what u released back in February lol. Almost 6 months of emptiness now.

Also maybe consider going in some partnership with Steam if possible ..that should boost popularity of ts much more.

I agree they really need to make it free in order to compete with discord even if they have to make a free version with a deluxe upgrade or something but discord will use it against them that theirs is free and continue to crush them.

Also they should talk to steam, when you have a ts.address.com link to your TeamSpeak it creates a link, in which on steam opens it to nowhere and ppl get confused when recruiting, they should really have it so if they don’t have it installed it takes them to the download and if install connects them.

Maybe they should. I personally didn´t care that the app cost some money because I use TS daily and love it AND it is still cheaper than getting a scoop of ice cream. Literally everyone runs around with an expensive phone so 1,19€(21.07.2019) shouldn´t even be a thing. E.g. the public transportation where I live has a large banner in all their buses saying "We increased the fee for driving without a ticket to 60€. Nice expensive and new smartphone but no money for a ticket.".

Now my ideas:
- add channels to your recently introduced multiselect
  - easy to change specific settings of the selected channels that you can´t set for the default channel settings for newly created channels
    
    using ONLY the client without the need to change things via e.g. query
- server banner file on the server EDIT: totally forgot about all the internal links! :)
  - if we get the full modern chat that shouldn´t be a problem :)
  - makes it a lot easier when changing the banner a lot
- add drag&drop functionality to channelid internal links
- add default codec quality option like the default encryption option (maybe this is more a server idea :D)
- permission system
  - ability to copy & paste permissions (multiselect)
    
    e.g copy some permissions of one group to another if you just want to add them to the existing ones without adding them by hand individually
    includes the option to delete multiple permissions aswell
I have more ideas but unfortunately I forgot them at the time of writing this post.

Kinda curios.

My assumption would be the costs of developing the iOS or Android version and the cost of putting it on the App Store/Play Store.
For Desktops they can slap it on their server for download which will cost a lot less than the mobile stores.
As well as it being a form of income for them.

That is literally 100$/year for the App Store and 25$ one time fee for the Play Store (and not even per App, only per Publishing account). Apple and Google only want money from you if you sell your App or do in-app micro transactions. It's around 30% or so, the last time I checked that.

Aka TeamSpeak only need to pay Apple and Google when they add a price tag to their apps (I don't really count 100$, that just nothing for a company)

So the only reason would be development cost. But on the other hand the Linux and Windows and Mac version also require development time and therefor costs. So why are they free?

I hope they really use a modern (maybe JS based) framework so they can reuse a lot of the code for their mobile app, if they want to go for a Hybrid one. That would reduce development cost because only one code base is needed for Android and iOS + webclient.

And because ScP mentioned Vue.js for the TS5 desktop client, I really hope they are doing this. Especially since Ionic announced their Vue Beta in April.

See - it´s just not accessable/easy to go and not everyone is hosting their own server.
With Discord, I usually go on a website, click "Bot join" and the bot will join and do it´s thing - and it works works and works.
You don´t have to mess with things like the setup, whitelisting, permissions etc..
There are of course websites where you can do that - but in terms of quantity, quality,accessability it doesn´t feel the same.

I really lack the insights to tell what´s wrong with that api - but I do wonder why it seems to be so easy with Discord and such a pain with ts.
