How to: backup OR move OR migrate the server into new machine or hard drive

I have been hosting a TS3 server off my computer for the last year or so, on Win7.
However, I am now migrating over to linux, and am wondering if it is possible to copy the server config etc over, so that I can have the same channel layout, permissions, and all of that, without having to recreate it manually.
If this is possible, can someone please list which files I will need to move to which locations on the linux side?

We have a FAQ for this question

Here is an universal solution for every Operation System.
It does not matter if you move from Windows to Linux or to OSX or to Windows.
Having a copy of your server running is not supported. Copies will deny to start or will shutdown on their own.

    1. Stop your old server instance (Do not kill it! Or else you will not be able to start your new server for the next 2-3 hours!)
These are official supported ways. to shutdown the whole server.
All ways will shutdown the whole instance and will report, that slots are not used anymore.
    All operation systems:
    The ServerQuery command serverprocessstop.
click me to get an "how to use the Query Interface with Putty"
Right-click into the Server Tray Icon -> Then press Exit
    Linux/FreeBSD shell:
The command ./ stop if your server was started with ./ start
    2. Install the new ts server on your target machine

    3. Copy following files (in case they do exist) to the target machine:
    3.1 In case of MariaDB
Do not forget to move your server database to the new server.

    4. Copy following folders to the target machine:
    5. Make a backup of your old server, maybe you will need it
Follow Steps 1 to 4 but skip step 2.

All flame posts above mine got deleted.....

Here is a good walk through on Installing Teamspeak3 on Linux -- The host is using WinSCP and Putty, but the commands used in Putty work on local Linux as well. Once you have the server installed, you can copy the files mentioned above from your old server on windows to the new on Linux.

To make your server restart after rebooting, you will need the script file he mentions... I have been using it with good results, will attach if needed.

    Move server to different provider

Is it possible to move a server (All channels, files, settings - everything I did) to a different provider. I'm currently using GameServers for a TeamSpeak 3 server and in a month it's gone down 6 - 8 times and needed to contact support to restart as well as consistent complaining about lag.

Is it possible to (for example) create a backup of the Server and then say purchase hosting with a different provider and upload that backup there, so nothing would change except the hosting / address?

    Proper backup?

    Hi there,

I really want to reinstall my dedicated server (Debian 7 to Debian 8) which has an annual ts3 license running on it, aswell as a full functioning server with 99+ channels, servergroups and what not.

Question is, how do I do it without any dataloss, let it be the lightsql or other files?
And how do I implement the backup onto the new distro? (Debian 8)

Thanks in advance for your help!

    - Andy

Is moving server a matter of copying and pasting?

Im curious since i need to move server, if teamspeak can be easily copied to another server or not? is it simply a matter of copying and pasting teamspeak and running the sh script again?

If your license is IP bound, then yes.

On the topic of moving server, read upgrade guide. It isn't much different.
