So my teamspeak is using around 25MB of ram with 7 users in my room talking, by addidng a simple 6MB gif to the banner it goes up to 430MB.
How come can this happen?
Everyone in the room confirmed that teamspeak was using the same amount of ram.

GIFs are compressed and will be decompressed to display. 6MB GIFs taking 430 MB when decompressed is normal for animations with little photographic data.
That makes no sense but i guess that is the best i'll get.
Why's that not making sense?
Well, try this animated gif and verify the amount of memory.

Then, back to your 6MB gif and if the memory returns to 430M.

???
Normal usage for my computer and others on ts is 50-100k
Anyone else with the same spike?
Animated GIF?
I just made a short video about it.

That's because of the insanely HUGE animated banner that server uses.
It's a 4140x954 pixel animated image...

Users of my servers also abuse my server because their clients was laggy and they also gets FPS drop while ingame and teamspeak runned and connected to my server.
Solution was easy. I replace animated banner by static .png one and all problems are gone.
Hi there,
Since the last update TS3 has been using up quite a few RAM ... over 1Gb. Is this normal? Here's a log of my client. http://pastebin.com/rr3prapZ
Thanks
does any of the servers you're connected to have a banner? If so try removing that banner or have the admin of the server remove it.
It could be that the server has a huge banner set, that is probably animated (even if it doesn't look like it) and these tend to eat memory.

It was exactly that. From 1Gb of RAM to 34Kb in two seconds. Awesome, thank you ! Is there anyway for a user to block the banner, even if the admin doesn't remove it?
No, unfortunately there isn't. While there is an option to prevent animated images from being displayed, it doesn't apply to the banner.
It usually helps to inform and talk to the admin of the server in question though. Most of the time they simply don't know what they're doing with their banners and just put a 4k image in there without knowing and it looks like a small one in TeamSpeak anyway because it gets scaled down. If those are then animated as well (possibly without any visible animation too) it eats RAM like crazy and the admin isn't aware of it. Talking to them and explaining that they waste RAM like crazy usually helps and convinces them to replace it with a smaller and / or non-animated version.
