Btw, due to complexity any software can be vulnerable and me dont think TS is expensive - Ventrilo is.

With this kind of limited Teamspeak experience you can complain about the hardware support of Teamspeak, but not rate and compare the whole software.

@schlomo the closed minded thinking of anyone defending a losing positon. actually i used ts3 from about 2012-2014. it was always convoluted, janky and unduely vulnerable. i know you are calling me stupid, but i doubt the average voip user is going to spend the time and effort i have recently to get an application working, when there are so many better alternatives available. the illogical construct of 'it doesn't work for you, but it works for everyone who is using it,' was good for a chuckle.

@alakazam the basic service of group voice communication. according to wiki: Party line systems were widely used to provide telephone service, starting with the first commercial switchboards in 1878.

it's pretty clear i'm tilting at windmills here. enjoy your downward spiral.

I'm not sure why you're getting upset here, dante answered your question in the thread you posted.

If you read my previous posts on this thread about discord, you would see how it really is a dumbed down application compared to other voip solutions targeted to gamers. I've seen people who found discord confusing and it can be for someone not computer literate, and sure you might say teamspeak is harder to grasp. But really discord has so much clutter now it pars with teamspeak. I'm not saying Teamspeak is the best voip solution out there, certainly not, but in terms of features/finely grained permissions and settings Teamspeak is top. You can have any setup you like with a solution like this.

To clarify, every application has vulnerabilities, it's about how promptly and efficiently a team can roll out fixes.

While you mention it, if not Teamspeak, what then is the best voip solution out there, in your opinion? Why is it the best? Did you switch to it? And if not, why not?

You can't even copy and paste his username. At least, you know what you are talking about when describing TeamSpeak as not idiot-proof.

Making a forum account with an overly-creative name 2 years later makes sense to me.

Anyway, there's no actual evidence in any of your posts. Guess that's just a forum troll.

Question Discord better then TeamSpeak? - AMA

Please TeamSpeak create an AMA on Reddit or here..

So many players leave TeamSpeak. I only hear use Discord, it is free, it should be better?!

I find TeamSpeak is good, the problem is I find the license costs for Hoster too high... More communitys use NPL licenses and no longer need Hosters for there TeamSpeak Server.

What does TeamSpeak do to lower costs for Hosters (?) or TeamSpeak more attractive to the Users?

Hosters will always be much more expensive for communities. And for most communities, there are people willing get into runing servers themselves. There is nothing wrong with hosting the NPL yourself.

Okay, but hoster also have to pay their costs (hardware, power, network, staff) and TeamSpeak license are very high.

    Small bill, only hardware:
    - Dedicated server: ~ 50-100 $
    - TeamSpeak License ATHP: (at least $ 120)
    ---------------
    Monthly: $ 170-220 (only hardware / license)

    TeamSpeak 10 Slots - $ 1.6 to $ 3.1

So you need over 100 TeamSpeak - 10 slots server to pay your bill. And you did not make a profit at 100 TeamSpeak Server!

And at the end, it is very difficult to convince customers to use TeamSpeak when there are apps like Discord.

But as a hoster, you have no chance to get to customers if there is the NPL license.

The NPL is in place since the very first days of TeamSpeak 3 and TeamSpeak 2 even had more slots without any license at all. Yet, there have always been hosters.

Run teamspeak in a 5 dollar or euro vps all you need is minimum 512MB-1GB ram and you can have 200+ people on the server at once.

Also I think you mean Annual Activation License (AAL) not NPL. I agree, AAL pricing is very high and not very competitive.

Ok guys... I've read a lot of these "Discord VS TeamSpeak" and "Discord is better than TeamSpeak" postings now and I can't help but posting my personal opinion on this topic... I'm using TeamSpeak since 2003 and I still think it's the best VoIP solution out there. Again... I'm not writing this as a representative of TeamSpeak Systems GmbH.

So... I've tested Discord for some time now and yes, I have to admit, that it's an eye-catcher with its modern UI and text chat capabilities. But apart from these two features, it simply can't compete with TeamSpeak 3. Here's why:

    1. The desktop client is an Electron based web application written in JavaScript. This is a bummer on performance when you're joining servers with a lot of people online. The client almost maxed out the CPU of my MacBook Pro when I joined an Overwatch community server. I'd say their statement that Discord is not affecting the FPS of your game is simply a lie.
    2. Almost half of my friends I was testing with had audio issues. We've experienced distortion, cracking sounds and lags. TeamSpeak worked out of the box for all of them.
    3. With the free version of Discord, you can only upload files up to 8 MBytes. Getting Discord Nitro for $4.99 a month allows you to share files up to 50 MBytes. I'm sharing a lot of files with friends. Most of them even bigger than what Discord can do. TeamSpeak's file transfer is without limits and other people can already start downloading while you're uploading as the TeamSpeak Server will automatically adjust transfer rates.
    4. Discord does not provide sub-channels or spacers which makes it hard to organize the structure of your channels. Also, I think the area displaying the channel tree is too small and makes it hard to see where people are and who's talking.
    5. Discord does not have a plugin system. As a person who likes to adjust software to my needs, I really miss all the customization features TeamSpeak provides.
    6. Discord does not allow me to join multiple voice servers and/or channels at once.
    7. The iOS app is very unstable and constantly crashes on me. I did not test the Android version tho.

I could name more, but these were the main reasons why I stopped using it. Also, most people seem to forget that TeamSpeak with all its features is completely free for groups up to 32 people. I've not seen many Discord servers with that many people online so I think that comparing prices is quite unfair.

    Just my two cents...

Discord is [censored], especially if you know their background...
What me've seen recently is a voice software called "Curse", it looks nice too and seems to be better and more serious than Discord.
Maybe you can test it too and review it here ScP

Why does every VoIP app look like a clone of Slack these days?
