I've been using TS3 for years with my community, but I decided to use discord to see how it was. We shortly moved back to TS3 in no time.

From my experience using discord for over 6 Months with over 100 users (my community) it's a real turn off. Not only does no one use the voice channels in discord, but everyone only uses the text aspect of the app. It gets real stale after a while.

Here's where it gets interesting but there is a bot called carbon (monitors users in voice, messages sent etc..) on there and from my periodicle monitoring s it seemed no one used the voice channels out of over 100k users maybe under 10 in the voice channels out of all the servers carbon is in. I find that most of their users came off of other text chat apps.

Also the owner is a very shady fellow after researching him have come to found his past projects have been failures and has had to sell them off and their "idea" of selling sticker packs and awful themes as a ROI is a complete farce.

Continuing off the top If you're worried about security, they're "investors" like Time Warner are cynical bastards, and would want something in return for their investment.. you don't know what they're doing with those messages.

If you care about ddos protection, I suggest going with a suitable host that can provide real ddos protection or nfoservers.com and digital ocean I'm using nfo's linux only vps and it handles well as I have my server about 70 users connected at once, dj bot, fast dl(two servers) and znc. Haven't even reached my 4000GB peak! $3 for 2000GB.

I just registered on here to give my two sense, but know that my perspective is from somebody that like and prefers Discord by far over services like Teamspeak.

-No matter what you do you are paying for everything you use online, you are either paying with your time, your money, or your data.

-If you use Facebook you don't care about your data, so if you use Facebook, you have no reason to complain about Discord doing the exact same thing. So there goes a large majority of people that have no right to complain about Discord.

-A lot of people have trouble affording services like that of Teamspeak, but I always have and I always will believe that you get what you pay for. Teamspeak from what I have heard from those who know how to use the service and do use the service, they are getting what they paid for and what they paid for was good service that offers them privacy and total control over their servers.

-Discord has a very user friendly interface in my experience and I was able to sign up and use their online web based version without any difficulties at all, the same goes for their installed versions which I have installed both on my home computer and my KindleFire. The service works for me and is extremely reliable and easy to use. Teamspeak was however a service that I always had trouble figuring out how to use and never quite learned how to do any of it, especially setting up servers.

-I personally find that a combination of both text and voice features satisfy the needs of more people, and you have to remember that Discord is currently a constantly updating service.

-Discord does how integration for a good amount of services including Youtube, Twitch, Steam, and Skype. There has been talk of them adding services like that which Skype provides so that you can my voice and video calls to friends on Discord.

-From what I heard from a Discord Partner, Discord plans to charge for some of their services in the future including servers after they have built up a large user base.

Now for those looking specifically for reasons to not use Discord I will list a few.
-You highly value your privacy and Data, which is why you shouldn't use Discord or Facebook.
-Switching from one service to another can be hard for an already established community and as a result could lead to the community losing some members as a result of the switch over.
-Discord is constantly getting updates and as a result because they are still working on a large amount of the features, you are likely to find bugs somewhere.

The inability to host your own server is the main point for me. I am having users mostly from austria, discord does not offer austrian servers.

I have not seen anything of the sort, my very good friend is a partner (we shared the server I use to have he continues to manage that.) and I've never seen any info of that. They've stated many times they're going to be selling skins.

Just to add to that post about them selling your data. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic...discord-sucks/

Permission system is very very dumbed down... sure TeamSpeak can be difficult at times depending what you want to do, but there's many videos online for that and the forum.

Another thing is they continue to add more junk features without bothering to fix the current bugs.

    Another TS3/Discord Thread

This is gonna be a bold thread. But seriously, you guys are getting stomped on by Discord.

Are there any plans to make TeamSpeak actually competitive with Discord? Speaking as someone who administrates servers, I love TeamSpeak from an administrator's perspective, but end-users are flocking to Discord. It makes no-sense for us as a clan to buy a TeamSpeak server anymore when all of our users go to Discord and don't even want TeamSpeak on their computers anymore, because as some are putting it, "it's just bloatware now." Plus, not to mention the fact that it's free for them AND free for us.

You guys seriously need to figure out how to make TeamSpeak servers intuitive again, and need to maybe start considering some other methods of licensing (one-time fees?) if you want to get back into the competition with Discord again.

Again, I know that administrators (including myself) are through-and-through disappointed with Discord, but we have to go where the end-users are. And quite frankly, that's not exactly TeamSpeak anymore.

~ A very concerned TeamSpeak fan.

I really don't think that Hammer & Chisel will be able to keep this monetisation model for long ("stickers"... no comment on that).
Although that model might well be possible to run a VoIP service (given the low prices of hardware and bandwidth), keep in mind that there are investors that want their 20 million dollars back. (As always in the gaming business, I have no clue what the hell people are doing with so much money for a simple product.)

Yeah, nothing in this world is for free... you always pay. With our personal data, your usage behaviour, or more intimate data; in a world of "big data" this is - to my mind - pricier than some bucks I pay directly. That what all those "free services" have in common.

I was always thinking the same thing... why is over 40 million needed. And they're investors are going to want it back, I can think of one especially wanting something in return, TimeWarner :P

Not sure if you read my previous posts, but I was using Teamspeak with my community and switched to discord, then switched back to Teamspeak as we found discord to be "too simple" and still is. Sure the UI is nice, but its not going to cut it. Honestly a small vps should be able to hold 500 users. When are you ever going to see more than 200 users in either TS or discord?

I can agree with this, sure they need to make money, but Teamspeaks licensing is a bit wierd and needs some updating. Especially for gaming communities. Hopefully ScP can chime in on this as he's been around for a long ****** time and should have weight on decisions around here.

People that's biased towards Discord thinks it has a better looking GUI, I would say TS has a better looking GUI. It's simple, not too bloated and has a nice treeview and a simple chat for the channel you're in.
I don't like the flat and extremely simple design that's modern now. I don't have any kind of eye sight problem, but it feels like this kind of design gets very bloaty and it gets "harder" to find the elemts you're looking for. Ok, this sound like I have some kind of problem with my eye sight, but I don't. If you're a UI designer (I'm not) you should know what I mean.

Though TS could learn a bit from Discord and implement a standalone chat.
As of now, the gaming community I'm in are using TS and Line. We haven't found a better alternative so far.

Yeah I've seen communities that have TeamSpeak and some sort of text chat room app, I find hardly anyone uses the chat room because it either requires someone to register an account or they're to lazy to join it. It would be better if TeamSpeak had a better chat system along with changes to the UI, but they don't listen.

    Opinion

Tbh I don't mind using discord once, But in the end teamspeak has more advantages over Discord for many reasons. Plugin support is very easy in my opinion when it comes to teamspeak and I enjoy having my unique plugins that allow me to control my clan alot more easier then other voice comm systems provide currently.. I also dislike the fact that we can't even host our own servers? What is so bad with us hosting our own servers tbh?

Discord turns me off because of that reason mainly for the sole fact that I don't wanna trust my info and clans communication on a system that wont even allow us to be able to host the servers ourselves. I've had more issues when it comes to voice comms with discord then teamspeak 3 tbh and I've used both programs since they basically came out.

lul at ts offering anything over discord. about the only argument you have is you own the data? trust me, unless you are terrorists or in organized crime, no one cares about you neckbeards raiding a WoW boss. besides ts being vulnerable, expensive, and convoluted, it just doesn't work for many people. as in, it does not provide the basic service of voice communication.

i registered on this board for some fairly simple technical help. 2 days later, my posts are still not up. no message as to their status, or why they are not posted. i mean i've already spent hours googling my issue. most current discussion is from 2012. so just the overall hostility and arrogance of ts is enough for me to give up trying to fix my problem. and i'm only here to tell you that most people will never take the time i have troubleshooting and attempting to communicate with the ts overlords. if you are curious, i did fix my issue: there was this button 'uninstall.'

now, how long before this gets deleted? or maybe it will never even be posted.

This isn't true. You posted 1 day ago and I moderated and answered the next day as soon I did read your post.http://forum.teamspeak.com/threads/1...ont-use-my-mic

Your rating is invalid. You only installed Teamspeak, but did not use it. That you aren't able to properly configure your device into Teamspeak client doesn't mean the whole Teamspeak system is broken for everyone. It's not working for you, but it's working for (almost) everyone else.
With this kind of limited Teamspeak experience you can complain about the hardware support of Teamspeak, but not rate and compare the whole software.
