Beginner Question: How do I setup a TS3 Server on Ubuntu?

Hi, I'm relatively new to Linux as I just switched from Windows and I would like to know how exactly do I setup and run a TS3 server from my personal desktop running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I'm controlling it directly as a normal computer. All the other tutorials out there are showing how do setup a TS3 server as if the computer was an actual server. For Windows, it was quite simple as you just download the server, run it, and connect via IP. How do I do it on Linux? Downloading the files and running the TS3 server file did not seem to work. Do I need to run it in Terminal or something?

Deleted my post by accident lol.

Which file are you running? You should be running the script ts3server_startscript.sh, not the server file itself.

Thanks, had to figure out why the shell script wasn't running until I went into terminal and gave it execute permission.

FOR BEGINNERS LIKE ME COMING BACK TO THIS THREAD, GO TO TERMINAL AND TYPE:

    Code:
    chmod +x /pathtothefile/ts3server_startscript.sh
Replace the pathtofile part with the actual path to the file. For me it was
    Code:
    /home/(nameofcomputer)/Desktop/teamspeak3-server_linux_amd64/ts3server_startscript.sh
Now run the .sh file by using this command:

    Code:
    /home/(nameofcomputer)/Desktop/teamspeak3-server_linux_amd64/ts3server_startscript.sh start
Now your server is running! Good luck.

This how to may work, but step 1 is useless, when the server was extracted with the same user.
The user already has permissions to execute the scripts.

Oddly enough, I did not have permissions to execute the script. This is a fresh install of Ubuntu and TS. It may be redundant/useless but it ensures that the script executes.

This depends on how (and who) you extract the server. Permissions are set during extraction from your tar command.
You miss permission, when +x is not set or whe nanother user (or operation systrm) did extract the files.

    It's not related to TeamSpeak.
