    Instance Running Elsewhere

    Hi,

My servers over the pass couple of days have shutdown on a few occasions. I checked the logs and it reported the instance was running elsewhere.

I recently created a backup of my TS and shut it down, with the intention of only making active whilst my primary server was down (if failed)

I did leave the TS on the backup shutdown, but it was hosted on a flaky cloudatcost server and when it rebooted (without being told to reboot) it started the TS, which I can only assume caused my problem.

I have now deleted the backup server! Will i continue to have issues with my live servers? or is the instance database refreshed?

    Thanks
    Steve

You need to stop the copy of your server for ~2 hours to make sure it did timeout in our accounting system.
Booting up your real and backup server by using the same databse will bring back the shutdowns.

The copy was deleted 48 hours ago, despite this the primary copies still shutdown, is there a way of clearing the copy from the accounting system? Alternatively, what information is logged to the accounting system, as I could always rebuild the virtual TS instances. However, what I don't want to do is waste my time rebuilding the virtual TS instances if the accounting system is not shutting down based on this information.

I have googled what information the accounting system holds:

    - Date
    - (temporary) Block.
    - Total virtual server count.
    - Total slot count.
    - Unique Virtual server running on only 1 TS3 server

What one of the above values would be triggered given the copy has now been shutdown for over 48 hours?

any chance you could help please? My servers keep shutting down, despite the copy being deleted 3 days a go:

virtual server id 16 is running elsewhere, shutting down!
virtual server id 15 is running elsewhere, shutting down!
virtual server id 1 is running elsewhere, shutting down!

    They are not running elsewhere!

Do I need to scrap the servers and start again?

It is not required to delete a copy, it is required to SHUT DOWN the other instances. Stop the ts3server process that used to run your backup copies.

I cant shut down, as the server became corrupt and had to be deleted. The backup server no longer exists, yet my original instances keep stopping. How do I fix this problem?

Can someone please answer my question? below is a summary:

1./ created backup and moved to backup server.
2./ backup server restarted (on its own), and copy of TS started.
3./ original instances shutdown as a result of the copy running.
4./ backup server corrupt, had to delete server.
5./ original instances keep shutting down, despite the copy being deleted for more than 5 days.
6./ cant gracefully shutdown copy of TS, server it was hosted on NO longer exists, as a result of being corrupt.

    My possible options:

1./ can the copy be removed from the accounting DB?
2./ or If I rebuild the TS servers from scratch will this resolve the problem?
3./ if rebuilt from scratch, can I import a snapshot of the instances without out it causing a problem e.g. instances shutting down. I really don't know enough about the accounting system to make an informed decision.

I am more than competent of resolving this issue if I understand why it is happening. What information is passed to the accounting server? Is it a hash of IP/DB ID or something else? If I create from scratch will this be seen as a new instance on the accounting system, or the same and still shutdown the TS virtual servers?

    Frustrated :-)

It's impossible that you get the message "virtual server id x is running elsewhere, shutting down!", when there is no other server running or wasn't running since 2 hours.
It can't be because the accounting server would've deleted the entries automatically.

There must be another server running (or was running the last 2 hours), where all virtual server use the same UID.
There is no other way to get that message.

    Hi Dante,

My server at cloudatcost was destroyed, and when checking, the admin panel said I had no servers installed. However, based on what you said I decided on the off chance to SSH to my original backup server, and was surprised to see it was still live. So it now appears I have a free server :-) as I am still able to deploy an additional.

You are indeed correct TS was still running on this server, which it no longer is and never will again :-) Apologies, I was thrown a curve ball and really couldn't understand why I was still getting the problem.

    Thanks for the help

The message has nothing to do with your license. It's about a virtual server that is still registered in accounting system.

You did not stop the shown server or you did copy it now you try to run while the copy is still running.

Or you killed the instance instead of using the supported ways to stop the server / instance and now you have to wait 2-3 hours before you can start this virtual server again.
