How to register a Server Nickname

Server Nicknames provide an easy way to share and connect to a TeamSpeak3 server by using a nickname rather than an IP address or domain.

Register the Server Nickname

You must have a myTeamSpeak account to register Server Nicknames. Once logged in to myTeamSpeak, click on “Server Nicknames“ in the menu bar.




On the Server Nicknames page, you can create up to 5 Server Nicknames, edit or delete the ones you already have.



Enter the Server Nickname that you would like associated with the TeamSpeak server and the TeamSpeak server address (domain or IP address plus the port if there is one). When entering IP addresses you can either enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address or both.



Click ”Save“ to register the Server Nickname. To enter additional Server Nicknames, click ”Add server nickname“. If you are unable to save an entry, check to make sure you have filled all the required fields correctly and didn't provide any invalid data.


Multiple Server Nicknames can be used for the same TeamSpeak 3 server. However, Server Nicknames must be unique. The Server Nickname must also not contain certain characters (ie. colon). Names of certain companies, TeamSpeak hosting providers, and internet celebrities are blocked and cannot be registered by anyone other than the company, host provider or celebrity themselves. If you are the owner or a representative of a company with a blacklisted nickname, please create a support ticket.

Edit a Server Nickname

You can modify the entries for a Server Nickname by clicking on the pen icon on the right side.



This makes the entry editable until you click the close icon in the top right corner. Click “Save” to save your changes.

Delete a Server Nickname

To delete a Server Nickname, click on the ”X“ in the top right corner. A confirmation dialog will appear before the name is deleted.

I did everything as described. What now? I checked the changelog and I don't get what

enter registered server nicknames as server property to display it to all

Setting up a nickname for my server doesn't work for me, or at least I have no permissions to do so (altho I'm the query.)

Any help is appreciated.

You can connect to that nickname now and only need beta client 3.1 for this.

The server property does not exist yet. This needs unreleased server 3.1.

Server Nicknames will expire when there is no connection activity.

Edit, works perfectly, shame the limit is 5! seems low for big community :P

Well, a single person does not usually have more than 5 servers.

I've 9 servers in my favourites, which I all visit regular. I know other people, which even have more than 20 servers in their favourites.

This feature is expressly NOT for visitors but for admins. That's why they locked so many names at start, so only admins of the corresponding server can register them.

You seem to misunderstand the purpose of nicknames. The server administrator registers a nickname for "his" server and tells the users. Server visitors are not supposed to register a nickname. They don't need to. The server admins of each server do.

But I agree to Schlumpi's argument. A visitor doesn't really need an own server nickname. He can see and connect trough a bookmark which can can have a custom name and DNS address already.

We limited it to 5 so that Admins can choose different names for 1 or 5 servers. And visitors could register Names for their 1-5 favorite server(s).
The limit of 5 may change in the future at this moment we'd like to stay with 5 server nicknames per user.

I've one another question: Why does the server nickname require at least 3 and not 2 letters?

We decided this in a meeting to make 3 chars as a minimal requirement for a server nickname.

How long does it take to update an existing nickname? The last time I tried, it took several minutes. That limits the use as a DynDNS replacement.

Editng the IP/Address should be updated within a minute.
Adding/Removing a new Server Nickname can take up to an half hour.

Yes this feature is more for users who host their own server or did rent one.
