TS3 client not starting when using USB headset

    Hi,

I am trying to setup the latest TS3 client (3.1.7) on my linuxmint machine. The OS is on the latest version (18.3, Xfce 64-bit) with all the updates installed.

When I use the client without my USB headset (Spirit Of Gamer Elite H70) it's working fine (or at least the issue didn't happen while I was testing), but as soon as I connect the headset it throws the below error:

QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath: Please instantiate the QApplication object first

    My log file:
    2018-01-18 17:12:15.857339|INFO |ClientUI | |Failed to init text to speech engine

I searched for the "Please instantiate the QApplication object first" error, but none of the results helped in any way.

Also I saw that somebody else created a ticket with the same error today, but I thought I will create another one, because not sure how related our issues are?

    Regards,
    Tozo

I doubt that the error message is related to your USB Headset.

Or is it more like that one?
    Code:

Yeah, I have seen the second part (HTTP connection factory) on different forums, but it's not in my log files/console.

The QCoreApplication line is the only one that's printed onto my console, nothing else.
But I restarted my machine (I have to do it after I plugin the headset, otherwise the teamspeak won't start - even if I pull the headset out) and started up the client.
I see that line again on my console and the app still works (headset not plugged in):

So I suppose that line being there might be fine?

Anyway, I tried to update to 3.1.8, just to see what happens, but when it tries to copy over the files from /tmp/ to my home folder it throws an error:

    Code:
    Patching update
Could not patch '/tmp/teamspeak_temp_1/ts3client_linux_amd64_old' to '/home/tozo/TeamSpeak3-Client-linux_amd64/ts3client_linux_amd64'
    rolling back file updates
    Update cancelled
Not sure if there is any log files for the update process? I didn't see any entry in the normal client log files and I didn't find log files in the "/tmp/teamspeak_temp_1/" either.

Also did another testing: I started up the application first, then connected my headset. The client became unresponsive after a couple of seconds*, again I don't see anything unusual in the log files/console.

console (log file is basically the same):
    Code:
QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath: Please instantiate the QApplication object first

*Update: That's not quite correct. The client becomes unresponsive when I try to go to the settings or connect to a server, so when the client tries to use my headset? As long as I stay on the main screen and don't do anything, it's fine.

Update#2: I was able to update my client to 3.1.8, by starting it as a sudo...
Anyway, after the restart looks like it's better. I still can't connect my headset while the app is running, it freezes again, but if I plug in my headset first, then start the app, it works!
I will do some more testing over the weekend and get back to you next week.

BTW My client crashed, so I sent a report to you including the link of this post. There might be some information there that could help you tracking down this issue.

    Thanks,
    Tozo

    Hi,

My experience after testing TS (version 3.1.8 - 16/01/2018 10:45:41) for a couple of days:
The beta is much better (it's working now), although I noticed one thing: I have to plug in my headset first, then launch the application, otherwise it won't work.
What I mean by that is the app freezes as soon as I try to connect to a server and I have to kill it, but at least after I kill the ts3 instance in the console, I can start it up again.

I don't see anything suspicious in the log file:

Starting up without my headset plugged in:
    Code:

If you want to, you can set the ticket to resolved since it's working for me (even though I have to apply a little workaround there)

    Thanks,
    Tozo
