Windows 10 (1803) does not allow to use the microphone

    Hello,

My PC has just updated to the latest Windows 10 update (OS Build: 17134.1 | Version: 1803) and it would appear that my microphone is not being picked up by my client. A warning window pops up when I join a server saying:

"The configured capture device was not found. Instead using: Microphone (High Definition Audio Device) Press OK to apply the changes or press Setup to change the configuration manually."

After Windows 10 update Mic not working in Teamspeak

After Update Windows 10 to build 17134 i am getting this error in Teamspeak (Error VADDisplay timer: Error reading voice power: 2304) Discord is working fine and my Mic is set to default in the windows sound settings so i have no clue what is going on.

    Update
The latest Windows update requires that access to your microphone is enabled.

These 2 settings must be enabled:
    • Microphone access for this device
    • Allow apps to access your microphone

The settings can be found under Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone (left side)
You can also press Windows key + R and type in ms-settings:privacy-microphone to reach that setting.

Upcoming client 3.1.9 will show a dialog with a clickable link to the settings.
And the client will reload capture device when you press the OK button in that dialog. So you do not have to reconnect to server after you fixed the permissions

We will investigate into this issue.

Had no problems on my private device. Will try on other devices to.
Meanwhile make sure you are using the latest driver for your Sound card / Headset.

It seems that Microsoft made quite a few changes to the audio backend, bringing back some pre Windows 8 features, at least that is how it looks to me. However, the issues are not just with Teamspeak, quite a few applications are affected.

And yes, i'm having the same issues as the Author, just with different hardware.
    * Sound Blaster Z (on latest known driver)
    * Blue Snowball ICE (has no dedicated drivers)

Neither DirectSound nor WAS work, applications detect all audio devices correctly just are unable to properly connect to said devices, at least when it comes to capturing audio.

Made an account just to post my data regarding the same issue:

I managed to fix the issue by enabling access to the Microphone in the Privacy settings, as suggested above. I am not sure why it is affecting other programs, when those Privacy settings are only meant to affect Windows Store apps?

Same here, then I had to cycle the capture device in options to get it working.

To speed this up, if you're affected you can Win-R and enter
    Code:
    ms-settings:privacy-microphone
    .
It's the first two items, "Allow access to the microphone on this device", "Allow apps to access your microphone".

    Hello,

It was indeed the new Windows 'permission system' that was causing the issue. I managed to figure this out 10 minutes after posting my thread.

Thank you dante696 for looking into this issue.

(Apologies for double posting my thread, I did not read the message saying that someone has to review it before it gets posted)

    Bloody Microsoft,

i always think of myself as a more than advanced user with over 20 years of service in the IT-Business, but this puzzled even me now. I re-installed the sound drivers several times, even dug up the oldest and crappiest Mic i could find and it just didn't work whatsoever. Neither Teamspeak nor any other app wanted to recognize it. I was even already thinking about re-installing Windows and then i thought have a look on Teamspeaks Forum if anybody has the same issue. Who would have thought you have to activate BOTH options? Somebody should get shot at Microsoft for stupidly labeling the option so one might think the default is plainly everything and the other one is to control access on a per app basis. Gaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (my table top has a few dents now from my head hitting it hard)

Anyway, cheers guys, you just saved me a few hours work.

    Sir Gentleman

We don't know why the second option for Apps also must be enabled. We are no such App and this wasn't needed before the update

Our Developer could not find anything in Microsoft's documentation.
Maybe this is a new bug. Maybe this is a desired behavior.

In next client update we will inform how user can fix this in case they did run into same problem.

p.s if anyone knows more about the change in Windows then feel free to share the information.

Windows update from May 4 disabled Mic in TeamSpeak

I had a big long post written stating everything I tried, but it vanished when I went to preview post. So short version, I tried changing every setting I could and reinstalling all drivers/software I could think of, and TeamSpeak still won't recognize, rather open, my capture device. The exact error, when doing capture test, is 'Error, could not open capture device.'

Win10 update Microphone can't be used

Since the big win 10 update I can't use my microphone/headset with teamspeak at all. I am not able to do a roll back on that update as I have several programs that are connected to it. Any hints or tips? Allowing it under setting does nothing either. My computer downloaded the software for it just TS is not allowing it through and I have been using this same headset for over a year with it
