The title is the error I get when trying to set my avatar, have used both PNGs and JPGs of this image but it doesn't work. Trying to use other images works, but not the certain one I wish to use.

The image you are using may not be the file type you named it.
Possibly a bmp or gif file was renamed to jpg.
you can check that with tools like IrfanView or you open the image in an editor and save it again to the right file type.
