Solved ServerQuery Bots keep timing out

I am having trouble with a specific type of bot.

Every bot that needs to stay connected, because it needs to recieve chat messages, times out.

Basically, it connects, subscribes to a few events (server, textprivate) and waits for one of these events to fire.
Even when that happens, and the bot executes a query command, the server times out. So triggering the bot doesnt seem to have any effect on the time until it times out.

This seems to only be happening on my server (3.7.0, Debian).
I do not have access to any router configuration (not directly at least), as this is a VPS hosted on netcup, but I do have access to the firewall config.

Any idea why my bots keep timing out after roughly 10 - 15 minutes? I crosschecked on a 3.7.0 Server on a Windows Server machine, and it worked fine.

I know this sounds a lot like I am not sending enough keepalives, but that can't be it, as it works fine on other servers.

    EDIT:
Also the bot uses SSH to connect.

Idling behaviour depends on the version:

    • Prior to 3.3.0: You timeout 10 minutes after the last input.
    • 3.3.0-beta1: You timeout 5 minutes after you connected.
    • 3.3.0-beta2 through 3.3.1-steadyclock: You timeout 5 minutes after your last command. TeamSpeak recommends sending a line with just space. Doing so will crash the query connection and occupies slots forever (until the server is restarted). There are nice exploits based on this which TeamSpeak calls intended behaviour.
    • 3.3.1-final and newer: You timeout 5 minutes after your last command. Space counts as a command. Empty lines do not.

That is probably not the issue, as I use a 3 minute timeout, and it just crashes on one server, not on any other I tried.

It is probably something network related, but I can't think of a good cause

What do you send when you idle?

The version command. But again, its just this one server.

    Any ideas for possible reasons?

Alright, appearently the issue was the timeout.
So even if normally the bot should time out after 5 minutes, but I send a keepalive every 3 minutes, its not enough.
So when setting the timeout down to 20 - 30 seconds, the bot does not time out anymore.
