I am getting this error when i try to log in with telnet:

Problem solved!
I used putty instead of the windows telnet and that worked!

but i have in putty telnet the same problem....

have you checked that the two character sets that you use match, for example you are not using german on your pc/putty and english on your server?
and just to make it very sure, you are using: login <space> serveradmin <space> YoUrPaSs
also could you try: use 1
and see what the output is, if it results same error probably charset, else i have no clue and you will need the devs, and could start with trying to reinstall ts.
running on centos 5.4 64 bit with mysql here fine :P
last but not least have you tried logging in with the querylogin from the ts3 client? (ctrl+shift+v)(do not forget to erase your password when done, it stays)
