[Solve] How to disable file transfer on new created channel?

    Hi,

I'll try to explain as better as i can my problem.

On our server, we want Guest people to be able to upload/download only in one channel.

For now the solution that we planned works : needed upload/download/browse power of 100 for the other channels, and 25 for the Transfer channel.

But, we also want guests to be able to create new channels.
And here's the problem : we do not want them to be able to upload/download/browse in their own new created channel.

We searched a way to do that but didn't find one...

If there's actually no way to do it, I think it would be a good idea to implement new permission for it

    Thanks

Just set the file_powers of the guestgroup to 0 or remove it.
Set the file_powers on the channels they shouldnt use to a value > 0.
Grant those rights only on the channel they should be allowed to.

Channelgroups have no file_powers by default, so if you do the above, guests should be able to create channels, but not to use the file-feature.

    Hi

The issue here is that there isn't a way to change the default permissions value.

The only way i can think of, is to set the guests download/browse power to -1 so that they can't download in any channel at all, and then create a permanent channel group with the desired file download/browse power for that specific channel. This way, only those who are in that channel group are able to use the file transfers, but it has one disadvantage, the users having to be manually added to the group (that doesn't work if you have lots of users).

Kinda messy, but it was my best shot.

    EDIT:

I might be mistaken, but i think this doesn't work, because if you remove the guests file transfers power they get 0. Channels have a default required file transfer power of 0, so they would be able to.

But with that post made me thinking, why not setting both server guests and the channel you want to enable the file transfers to "-1"? This way they could use it in the channel you set cause they have the required power and the couldn't use in other channels cause the default channel required power is 0

    Regards

Even easier: disable ALL FT permissions in the server groups. Set the channel permissions (read: channel permissions, NOT channel groups) to enable file transfers. Now all users can use FT in that channel, but nowhere else.

Note: Due to the current bugs with channel / channel group permissions this won't work correctly until the update (hopefully) fixes it.

@Jonbat: Right, by default Channels have no file_power set.
Thats why me wrote to set the power of those channels they shouldnt use to a value greater 0.
