Virtual server is running elsewhere, shutting down!

Yesterday both of our virtual servers stopped unexpectedly. This is what I found in the log:

    2010-06-05 19:49:48.819731|ERROR |Accounting | | virtual server id 1 is running elsewhere, shutting down!
    2010-06-05 19:49:48.821077|ERROR |Accounting | | virtual server id 2 is running elsewhere, shutting down!

Restarted the whole server, and virtual servers stopped again, exactly 60 minutes after server start.

This is a server running on Linux, so for testing purposes I fired up a copy with a recent database backup on Windows XP. Exactly after 60 minutes, the virtual servers stopped on Windows as well.

Since the second restart on the Linux server everything is running fine, so hopefully it was just a one time problem. Still I wonder what could cause it?

You've had another server running somewhere else with the same key.

Yeah, that was my first thought but both on the Linux server as well as my Windows PC where I never run a server otherwise? I guess I would notice a big black console window

Ok, I thought you meant that I was running another instance on the same Linux server. I just realized what happened then. Starting my Windows test server (I was making a test upgrade from 22 to 23 before deploying it on the Linux server) with the same license key caused the problem.

I didn't realize that TS3 reports back licensing data to somewhere on the net and they watch duplicate license files, because with earlier tests this didn't happen. Well, I'll just block my test TS server with the firewall when I'm testing then.

Sorry, according to Triton every organisation / entity gets only one license.

Why does your test server need a license?

Well, it doesn't exactly needs it, but it's a bit cumbersome to edit the main server's properties to 32 slots or less every time i copy the database to the test server and then setting it back.
