    Teamspeak 3 Crashing entire machine.

    Greetings,

For several weeks now I have been having issues with TS3 in that it is crashing my entire desktop machine. Basically it will freeze everything on the screen and then cause a weird sound issue, almost as if everything is being played in slow motion.

This issue occurs in both full screen applications and also at desktop web browsing etc etc. I know the issue is not related to hardware as I have followed out the following.

To make sure it is not a cooling problem or anything like that I went out and bought a new 650 power supply and also extra fans and a new case to enhance cooling. Also bought some Artic MX2 paste that has knocked a few extra degrees of my CPU.

Yesterday (17.03.2011 I formatted my hard disk and reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 7 (x64) and brought it up to SP1 with all the latest windows updates.

1 ) Installed OCCT which, for those unfamiliar is a stress testing program. I ran this for 60minutes, no crashes.

Installed rest of operating system IE Anti Virus and other app's such as Microsoft Office 2007, no crashes

Installed a game which I play on a regular basis (Arma II & Its expansion Operation Arrowhead). Brought these up to the latest versions and also installed the developers own downloadable content, no crashes.

Tonight I installed Teamspeak 3, downloaded directly from this website and installed it as administrator on to my machine. Connected to my preffered server and within minutes my system crashed and the described issue above occured.

The crashes themselves require a full reboot to resolve and can occur anywhere from 5-35minutes apart. Take in to account reboot time its basically 2 crashes an hour, which is unbearable!

I think I have found the log file for the most recent crash. If this is not it please post where it can be found. I really need help fixing this one, i'm at my wits end with it!

Also something of note, I do run a plugin called ACRE which was made to work with the ingame voip system of Arma 2 however the crashes happen with or without this plugin installed so it makes no difference.

I have tried setting the afinity on TS to use just one core, no effect.

I have tried setting the priority of TS as suggested by someone who suffers from a similar problem (minus system reboots and sound glitched) and this fixed it for him...no effect for me however.

    My system specs:

    ASUS P5K Pro
    Intel Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
    8GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 RAM
    300GB Western Digital HDD
    GTX260 (BFG overlocked edition)
    Windows 7 X64 SP1

Need any more info give me a shout!

Sorry for the bump but its been 2 days lol.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what is causing my issue?

Would running the 32bit version of teamspeak do any good as I am running an x64 based system? I know its possible I just can't see how it would help to be honest. Just coming out with ideas out of sheer desperation to be hoenst haha.

    Cheers guys,

Do you use the onbaord soundcard? There is no word about it.
The latest driver release was on March 2th (It's called Realtek HD Audio-DriverR2.58) < Please try this and i hope it helps you out

    Hello,

Yes i've tried with Drivers from both Realtek & Windows Update. Same result for both. Its deffo teamspeak causing my issue as my computer runs flawlessly when i'm not running it. A mate helped me resolve an image error I was getting thinking it was that however it still happens.

EDIT: Specific image error listed was:

    Hi.

This one is a bit hard to narrow down. Have you noticed any consistencies with the crashing? Obviously TS3 is running. Perhaps a certain event triggers these crashes. For example maybe when you hit your PTT button or when you receive audio from people or is it completely random from what you can tell?

The log looks like it is from one of the RC clients, is this true or is it beta 37?

And one last question, has this just been on the new RC clients or also happened through many of the beta 30s and such? I know you said several weeks and i think RC1 started several weeks ago.

Out of curiousity what are you using for the playback modes / capture modes?

    Hello mate,

It seems to be totally random. I can be receiving or transmitting...or I could be sitting in a channel by myself. With regards to the version i'm running '3.0.0-Beta3g [Build: 12815]' and, if its any use the Qt version is 4.6.2

I use PTT and inbound comms go straight to my headset (Razor Charcarias - spelling). All other sounds, such as music or games go to my speakers. The speakers are a recent addition and the issue was present before they were installed - they are not relevant.

With regards to when this started, it was just after a reinstall of my machine. Before this it was as smooth as a babies bottom! Couldnt tell you which version I was using before hand however I used an old exe file for the install and then used the auto updater. Originally I thought it was this so I uninstalled and downloaded a fresh exe from the website. Boy was I wrong!

Well i would recommend trying one of the release candidates. The sound was completely reworked and this might help your problem. You may find how to obtain them with the first post at the following:

    http://forum.teamspeak.com/showthrea...629#post276629

When you say freeze, you mean like a complete freeze right? Or almost like a stutter (aka, as if your processor is maxed and it is SUPER SUPER SLOW).

Not so much slow as, total stop. Keyboard and mouse become unresponsive and the sound (if anys being played) just stutters constantly. You can hear it moving along just very very slowly. Like a said it sounds as if its in extreme slowmo mode.

Will give your suggestion a try and get back to you.

    Thanks,

    Recon.

Just an update, nope that didn't work. Actually made the crashes occur quicker :S !!

    Next lol....

Well, It should not matter, but it can't hurt. You could try it.
Also, can you try setting the mode for capture & playback to direct sound, and see it that helps?

Well, 32bit failed to resolve as did running in direct sound mode for both capture & playback.

As you can see not a sniff of whats going wrong (atleast from what I can tell).

Any windows log files that I can have a look at to locate the issue?

I'm not entirely sure it is but it could be a compatability issue between my hardware and teamspeak? If such things exist. It's probably not as i'm running the same hardware I was running before the crashes started but its something worth checking.

Cheers for the help so far guys. Appriciate it!

    Recon.

Are you in multiple servers at once? Like, do you have multiple tabs, and if so, do you have it hotkeyed?

Where im going with this is the same thing sometimes happens when I flip tabs. Matter of fact, it happens alot flipping tabs. Sometimes I accidentally hit my hotkey for it, then sometimes TS just freezes for a bit, sometimes so much so I have to end the process.

Beyond that, I would consider making sure every driver you have is up to date including DirectX. Don't just overwrite (directx excluding. it can be overwritten), make sure you uninstall the old ones first. You could even go so far as to use Driver Sweeper in safe mode to ensure you have completely cleaned old drivers form your sys. You could be getting some conflict, and this would resolve if that is the issue. You can find every driver you would possibly need at Guru3D, or just go to the individual hardware sites for your drivers, but G3D is very respected, and trusted, and pretty much the top techy site of that type on the net.

If you are confident about your drivers. ie you didnt just let windows install them all for you blindly, I would do as the fella above suggested, and try the RC1 pre-release., but to me, it sounds like a soundcard driver issue. If you have a PCI/PCI-E soundcard, like a Creative one for instance, and you also have onboard, make sure the onboard is disabled thru your bios. If you have onboard, make sure the drivers are up to date, with a fresh install of directx. If you use USB, well, ive never used USB, but reinstall the software, and assuming you could also disable onboard in the bios for that, but I dont think USB and onboard conflict. I could be wrong though. Just seems to me, only started happening after a windows re-install correct? hardware is the same. TS3 is the same, but new install, means drivers need to be installed, and sometimes, most times, if you let windows do the drivers it may miss something, not have a current version ect ect. Win7 is alot better in that regard though, but still not perfect.

    Hello mate,

All my drivers are up to date, checked, double checked and then triple checked.

No only connecting to one server when this happens....dont have any need to connect to multiples at the moment. I use on board sound from my p5k pro motherboard. Both windows installed drivers and also realtek drivers have been tried, both get the same result.

EDIT (30/03/2011) - We may have found the problem. The server I connect to uses some kind of bot that transmit information (text messages) to the clients chat browser at certain points. Doesnt seem to cause anyone problems however when the server admin switched it off my problem seemed to vanish. Although admittantly I was only for another 10-15 minutes after he disabled it. I'm planning on going back on tonight to see what happens. Hopefully its been solved. Makes me annoyed to think i've done all this and it was a ****ing bot causing the issue lol!

We didnt consider it originally as its never been a problem before for me or anyone else. Was just a shot in the dark. Will post again if it fixes it.

What do you mean exactly with "flip tabs" ? You mean ts freezes when you change your tab? Do you also have crashes like Recon21288?

    Hey guys,

Small update - No issue still persists to my dismay :'(

Needless to say i'm very close to just giving up and using other means. No disrespect to you guys or teamspeak as I know what a great piece of software it is when this issue isn't around. It just don't seem to agree with me anymore.

Anyone got any more suggestions ?
