    Unhappy Setup server/client on LAN

    Hi,

    I am trying to setup a server and clients on a local area network. Is this possible? How do you go about it?

    I setup the server on one machine as 'localhost'. Then on the other machine, I try connecting the client to that server using the IP address of the PC hosting the server but it fails to connect. I also tried using the computer name (which works for pinging) but no more luck... I also tried just plugging the 2 PCs into a switch (not connected to the rest of the network), gave them fixed IPs, still nothing...

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Can you connect with a client on the same PC of the Teamspeak server ?
    Do you get an error message in the server log ?

    Hi,

    Thank you for responding to my thread.

    @florian_fr40:
    Yes, I am able to connect to the server using a client on the same PC (using 'localhost' as the server address). This is the client error I get when trying to connect using a Client on a different machine on the same LAN:
    <10:26:34> Trying to connect to server on 10.101.102.153
    <10:26:40> Failed to connect to server

    @dante696:
    Yes, I can ping the 2 PCs using their IP address.

    Am I misising anything?

    I setup the server on one machine as 'localhost'.
    localhost or 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.x.x?

    when trying to connect to the server from a different PC on a LAN you use the servers IP.
    i.e
    192.168.x.x

    Stupid question but, are you 100% positive that the IP address (from the Teamspeak server) is 10.101.102.153
    There is a firewall on this computer ?
    As sTimulated wrote, this IP is really the IP range from your LAN ?

    @sTimulated
    localhost = 127.0.0.1
    (loopback on evry system - hosts file)
    About the LAN IP, maybe he has set this range in his lan.

    Got it working! The problem had to do with the Network Sharing settings on the PC I used to run the server...

    Thank you all for jumping in to help!

    Yes I know this but some people just type 'localhost' and not 127.0.0.1.

    @lesfqa
    Glad you got it working.
